i left IT to do software development back in 2015 and didn't notice a cultural difference between the 2 at the time.

i came back to IT last year and -- holy fuck


things have REALLY changed; this among them.

This is a really frustrating part about being a developer. A lot of people think they're good at negotiating because they get high salaries. But they would probably have gotten better salaries and more even salaries if we had a union. I have seen pretty extreme examples of, at least in Norwegian terms, of 30 to 50 percent higher salaries for pretty much the same job and even where the person with the lower salary was more competent and able to work faster and accomplish more.
