I prefer the touch ID. It doesn't require me to hold my phone up to my face all the time, whether I've washed my face or not, in the light or in the dark.

I'm not even sure if Face ID is constantly collecting my facial data, it's terrible.

Why would anyone want touch id when face id works so well?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Because it doesn’t always work so well.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Works perfectly for me, Touch ID was good before Face ID, now it’s obsolete in my opinion

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Most people want bigger and better. Why would they bring back Touch ID unless it’s on the side like IPads.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

This technology is not perfect yet. That’s why apple doesn’t want to use this feature.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

face id is enough

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Another feature that will ultimately add +% to the final price in the next iPhone.
Has this feature suddenly become popular on iPhones again? Fashion is cyclical.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

they had created an touchID button on ipad’s, they must do it in new iphone, it’s the coolest feature imo

Looking at this comment sections, I still don't understand why it's a bad idea to have more than one options. Like come on, if you don't like it, you don't need to use it. If you don't like Touch ID, then just don't use it? But for us who wants to have it, let us has an option to have it. The same goes to sideloading.

This account looks like a chatGPT bot, the posts made all seem very chatGPT-like and the account has no comments despite being made 1y ago…

Exactly what I was thinking, the hashtags, the emojis and the way he writes is 100% from ChatGPT.

98% of the times the phone gets unlocked seamlessly with Face ID, i think that is a feature that you will not use

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

If it's either or, no brainer - Face ID. Logging in to websites and apps, paying with Apple Pay, it's just so much better and seamless. I wouldn't mind having both but truthfully I don't really care about it. Face ID works fine for me 99.9% of the time. The only instances it's kinda iffy is when the phone is on a table and even that is getting much better with every generation.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Unless it's a new form of snappier and more reliable Touch ID, I think I'll prefer FaceID. Even with Samsung's slightly more secure Ultrasonic reader, it's accuracy and usability is impeded when you have a screen protector on. So if it's between an optical fingerprint scanner and FaceID, then I'd choose FaceID. UNLESS, Apple decides to be nice and add a fingerprint scanner onto the Lock button

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Apple kind of “foreshadowed” that in-display fingerprint scanner will never a thing with iOS 16 where they moved the notifications to the bottom side of the screen.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Samsung has both so why not lol

This image body text looks very ai generated

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Touch id on the action button

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I love FaceID, and when I tried to use Pixel as a secondary phone, I started loving FaceID on iPhone even more.

The only benefit I see of Touch ID is that I can also add my SO's fingerprint for easy access.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Pass, I have Face ID

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I’d want the Face ID to be kept but add fingerprint at the back of the phone like some Samsungs

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Face ID ftw

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I can't imagine them ever doing this unless somehow FaceID didn't work with an under-display camera setup

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Do hashtags do anything on Reddit? Lol /s

I don’t need Touch ID. I don’t want it. If others do, let them have it, but allow me to disable it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I can’t argue that having both wouldn’t be nice… But I if I had to choose only one, I’d give up FaceID in a heartbeat to have TouchID back in some form.

When I ask daft Siri for directions while driving and she responds, “You’ll need to unlock your iPhone first, but I don’t advise doing that while you’re driving,” it’s very unsafe (and technically illegal in some states) to be forced to make direct eye contact with your phone… On my old iPhone 6s, I could place a finger on the home button while the phone remained in my pocket. I know CarPlay is probably the answer, but some of us just don’t have it in our vehicles.

Considering this scenario, TouchID has probably saved a few lives, but I doubt FaceID has.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

When I had an iPhone 12 the Face ID was slow and unreliable, and I wanted touch back. I just got the 15 and it’s quick and seamless, no need for Touch ID imo

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

touch id was a bitch on my 2022 se. would hate to see it come back because it would rise the price for something id not use

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Touch ID, definitely. Not giving up my SE3 for that reason; having the phone unlocked quickly and easily while I’m removing it from my pocket is so convenient. Why Apple can work it into the power button like they did with the iPad, I have no idea.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

There is no debate. FaceID’s pro’s outweigh the cons’s.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I recently set up an old iPad mini 4 I had laying around, after using FaceID only devices for the past few years. I forgot how fast it is to unlock and get right back to where you were, without having to do the awkward hold the phone up to your face move or tilt the iPad at an angle to get the right capture.

It was so fast in comparison, I thought the device wasn't getting locked when I pressed the sleep button and had to try waking it up with another finger where it prompted for the PIN.

Face ID is nice, but I'll stand by TouchID being superior for seamless just grabbing a device and authenticating before it's made it to your face.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Not happening.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Face ID is just much more convenient

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Touch ID on the power button would be great just like the iPad Air I think it’s on

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I honestly dont care for it, no need to have it. I never have any trouble with FaceID

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Face ID > Touch id, face id not working is such a rare occasion, it happens like once a month, these underscreen fingerprint sensors work 90% of the time. Hate them, id agree on having one only if they keep face id

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I went 5s -> 8 -> 2020 SE (body of 8) and held out until 15P hoping they'd bring back TouchID.

If they do this "soon" I'mma be so pissed.

But as a TouchID die-hard... FaceID has been really nice. Thanks to all of you for beta-testing it for me for the last 6 years :)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Honestly I believe the only reason they haven’t done it is because they’re stubborn. They’ve added touch ID on side buttons on certain iPad models like plenty of android manufacturers, why can’t they do it for iPhone too?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Its will be nice if the apple logo had touch id

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I think I prefer touch id, but face id certainly has it’s advantages dirty hands gloves and such.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Hell no face id so much better than finger print readers

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Why not both! I miss touchId as Face ID rarely works for me, but I hear others like it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I don’t need Touch ID tbh. I’m happy with Face ID

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Well they could add the sensor underneath the display and get rid of that notch, but I doubt it, notch became their ID card lol

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I prefer Face ID I recently switched from an iphone 7 to iphone 15 and I find it very convenient. Gives more space for a bigger screen while having the same size that fits in my palm.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

What's the problem to have both?

If I have to choose one i will choose Touch ID. Just wanted to get rid of that ugly notch (fancy way saying dynamic island )

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Face ID for sure yup, cause this feature totally eliminated the problem of wiping my hand or wiping that thing which reads my touch screen but TBH, the touch ID is much faster than face ID, but not easier and safer

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

would rather have 3D touch back tbh. but why not all three.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Touch id in the screen (Samsung Galaxy S23 like)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Don’t miss it personally. Face ID is fast and reliable and rarely gets it wrong. If they could implement both and not use it as an excuse to hike the price I’d be happy with that. But I’d rather have a rear finger print sensor than an under screen one. As my index finger naturally falls flat on the back of the phone in my hand.
