The political right hates AI a little less than the left, but not by super much, and some forces from the emerging America First movement are getting ready to protest AI's invasiveness and capacity for manipulation. The org is called Humans First, and they're trying to have a 50501-style nationwide protest about it on July 18th. If both sides cooperate on this one, good things can actually happen, so this should get talked about. A lot. https://www.humansfirst.com/

Makes sense. Both the Harkonnens and the Atreides were anti ai.

Like other commenters are saying: it’ll be sweet if anti ai sentiment unites people but the entirety of human history suggests people will cooperate until the threat is over and then they’ll break upon lines of who wipes standing or sitting or some other dumb shit.

"The conservative movement has been transformed by President Trump into a movement that puts the interests of everyday Americans first. Now, Big AI globalists seek to hijack our movement to get Washington, D.C. to put Big AI before the American people."

First of all, LOL

Secondly, the calls are coming from inside the party, dipshits.

This is what always gets me.

US dems will throw their leaders under the bus in a split second, or fry them over the slightest past scandal.

Even those that won't will criticize them over specific issues.

Most Republicans, no matter what, cannot blame Trump.

He is objectively, full-throated pro Big Tech; he invited them all to Washington. He is talking about a national OpenAI stake, he is talking up data centres, he literally brought Elon Musk into his cabinet. He's publicly received hundreds in millions of dollars in donations from Tech CEOs! Repeatedly.

Yet even this movement simply cannot bring themselves to say "maybe he's wrong on this one?"

[-] jtrek@startrek.website 13 points 3 hours ago

One of the big common themes of conservatism is following the leader. They all want to bend the knee. They love hierarchy.

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Well, the flip-side is there doesn't seem to be nuance or waffling, either.

To Republicans, he's either with them, or not; regular folks who break with Trump over an issue seem to renounce him entirely, from what I've seen.

...Hence I'm positing this could be a breaking point.

I think some Trump supports who join this movement, and start watching his actions closely, are going to hit it. Some already did over Epstein, but this is an issue with broader direct impact in peoples' lives.

How amazing would it be if our hatred for AI slop is what finally unites the working class against the billionaires?

[-] spicehoarder@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

Considering it's the festering carcass of capitalism manifest, every capital generating human stands to fucking hate it.

[-] terranoid@lemmy.cafe 20 points 4 hours ago

In a sense, it will

There was a guy who started talking about how they used AI in their ads and noticed way less conversion rate. They decided, fuck it, like write on cardboard and do something real and human. Waaaay better results.

I think the big wigs are going to realize they're getting ripped off by AI, told it's the future and that they need to invest and adopt before anyone else, and they're now realizing they're spending millions to save thousands.

[-] Signtist@bookwyr.me 83 points 5 hours ago

Man, even when they're doing something good, they still have to frame it as "I come first!"

[-] Canconda@lemmy.ca 40 points 5 hours ago

Conservatives categorically lack the brain capacity to consider others, never mind put them first.

[-] HailSeitan@lemmy.world 11 points 3 hours ago

Seems more like a lack of empathy than brain capacity. Moral and intellectual defects are not the same.

[-] Canconda@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 hours ago

Actually there's a fair amount of emerging neuroscience that shows that the brains of people with conservatives worldviews have lowered activity in the regions that process empathy, lowered activity in the regions that engage and resolve conflicts , and biased towards feeling threatened in a safe situation.

[-] HailSeitan@lemmy.world -1 points 2 hours ago

Of course moral reasoning shows up in a brain scan if materialism is true. The important point was about something a person is responsible for versus not.

[-] DoubleDongle@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

We do though. The entire lexicon of racism is ripe to be repurposed for shit-talking AI, because clankers literally aren't people and they actually do make society worse. For the first time in human history, there is something out there that it is morally correct to be bigoted at. I think the slogan also carries the subtle implication that the people behind AI aren't totally human too, which is great. Fuck clankers.

[-] Signtist@bookwyr.me 6 points 3 hours ago

Sure, but "clankers" aren't a thing. AI isn't sentient, the humans creating and pushing AI are. They're our real enemies. Being angry at "clankers" is like seeing a guy coming at you with a knife and punching the knife.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

I thought "clankers" were the people using the slop machines.

"Sloppers" is also a good word for them.

[-] Signtist@bookwyr.me 3 points 3 hours ago

Ah, in that case we're on the same page. I thought "clankers" was a term people were using to "put down" AI clients themselves, as if they had the ability to feel bad. Still, though, it means that the "humans first" idea breaks down, because it's still just humans vs other humans.

[-] binarytobis@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

I think you were right about clankers referring to the AI. It’s clear in the root comment that’s what they mean when they say “they literally aren’t people”. Also, it is common slang for robots in various media including, I think, Star Wars.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 hours ago

I guess it might be used both ways? Which is silly, the chatbots aren't going to get their feelings hurt by name calling.

[-] Signtist@bookwyr.me 2 points 3 hours ago

Yeah, that's why I always thought it was a strange term. I like the term "sloppers" to refer to the people using AI, though. Makes more sense to me.

[-] Epp@lemmus.org 1 points 48 minutes ago

So it's settled, Sloppers on one side, Luddites on the other.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 31 points 5 hours ago

"IT'S AFFECTING ME NOW!!!!"

Think they'll beat the living fuck out of some cops and attempt to murder some politicians? Seems to be the standard for their "protests".

[-] Signtist@bookwyr.me 16 points 5 hours ago

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Anti AI, anti cops, and anti politicians is a threefer.

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago

Me, with my broken digital clock: 🤔

Can then fight my enemy, but that doesn't make us friends

[-] DoubleDongle@lemmy.world 0 points 4 hours ago

Fuckin hope so tbh, it'd be amazing to see it happen for a good cause for once

[-] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

Am... am I about to go to a conservative protest? That was not on my bingo card.

[-] DoubleDongle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

Shit is gonna get weirder before it gets more normal. The end might be in sight but the ride ain't over. I'm pretty sure America First is what most Trump voters thought they were voting for. Not especially friendly on social policy but not controlled top-down like MAGA and the Tea Party. More American, less 'murica AFAIK

[-] shittydwarf@piefed.ca 12 points 5 hours ago

What do we want? No assholes! When do we want them? We don't!

[-] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 8 points 5 hours ago
[-] naught101@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

No. Co-opting shit is one of the worst tendencies that comes out of the left

But they could go and support it. Imagine organising a conservative anti-ai rally and getting met not with a counter protest, but with a horde of left/progressive people supporting your core message. It would be a head fuck and maybe enough to make you start questioning your reality and allegiances.

[-] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 0 points 1 hour ago

Supporting it is co-opting it

[-] naught101@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

I would interpret "Co-opting" as taking it over from the inside and changing it's aims internally.

Big AI globalists seek to hijack our movement to get Washington, D.C. to put Big AI before the American people.

Wow!! Who invited big AI to DC??

Tap for spoiler

[-] otacon239@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

[-] nightwatch_admin@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

Is that the Epstein Island Sports team? Smells bad man

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 5 points 5 hours ago

I wonder how many years until they find out what their legislators have been doing to promote AI?

A lot of them only recently found out that Bush admin gave Epstein a plea deal and that Reagan is largely responsible for the IRGC being sponsored by and alligned with China.

[-] BigMacHole 4 points 4 hours ago

Good! Conservatives are KNOWN to Vote for Politicians that SUPPORT their Interests INSTEAD of voting for Literally whoever has an R by their name REGARDLESS of Policy! THIS will SCARE their Representatives STRAIGHT!

[-] Fishnoodle@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Thanks for the list of targets. The enemy of my enemy isn't my friend, if they also explicitly consider me to be less than human

[-] NewDark@lemmy.today 3 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Your enemy is the capitalist class, not uneducated proles with a false sense of class solidarity.
