Imagine being so ugly your own government says publishing a photo of you is antisemitic.

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago

Knowing nothing about who that guy is i wouldn't even say the dude's ugly, just like, average looking and in need of a haircut while sneering

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 47 points 1 month ago

Yeah so like he's an ugly piece of shit as a person but i mean if we're appraising the guy's features i think he'd generally just be considered average looking if he weren't sneering all crazy and didn't have the religious mullet thing going on and had a shave and weren't dressed in the baby killer uniform

[-] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

Yeah, if he wasn't a truly reprehensible human being, and having that show in every inch of his expression, he'd probably just look like a regular person.

IDF soldier who got famous for sneering at a Palestinian woman in a photo (this same photo) published on the cover of a magazine.

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 24 points 1 month ago

Was he a soldier? I thought he was hilltop youth?

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

Hmmm idk tbh

[-] miz@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

yeah paramilitary, not IOF

[-] AnarchoBolshevik@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 month ago

Easy mistake to make.

[-] opiumfree@hexbear.net 41 points 1 month ago

that photo comes from him terrorizing a palestinian woman and her kids, thats why people are using the photo

[-] kleeon@hexbear.net 84 points 1 month ago

It's very funny how this guy's literal unedited face is considered antisemitic

[-] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 44 points 1 month ago

It's funny how when the photo came out, zionists were like "That's AI! No one could look like that and we don't behave like that!", then when the video came out they were like he's an innocent smol bean defending himself from that Palestinian woman, leave him alone

I’d feel pretty bad if somebody used Clint Howard to represent everyone in my country.

[-] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 71 points 1 month ago

To be fair the guy does look like a living antisemitic trope and I could see someone getting that impression without context.

[-] oliveoil@hexbear.net 54 points 1 month ago

People with context keep calling it antisemitism, including his own government.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago

Yeah out of context it looks bad, context makes it even worse, zionists just cannot stop unironically doing the protocols to stoke jew hatred globally.

[-] sexywheat@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

That is on purpose

[-] HAL_9_TRILLION@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago

To be even more fair, imma go ahead and say the flag kinda flatters him lol.

[-] muad_dibber@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 1 month ago

/uj yes I know this is bait really tho we shouldn't be demonizing people for their looks, only their actions and ideas.

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago

sneering is an action. having an awful haircut is debatably an action

[-] PunkMonk@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 month ago

when you're a genocider, I'm not going to hold anything back

[-] kugupu@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

think you're missing their point

[-] miz@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

do you have a full-res of just the flag

(rule 1 violation, lib!)

[-] Yuritopiaposadism@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago

i am not the lib, you are the lib. here is the full-res image:

[-] FloridaBoi@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

Teeth-gum ratio is vastly different. Should be 1:1

I don't really see how this is antizionist in a meaningful way. I do see how this could be antisemitic.

Posting and sharing stuff like this just make you look bad imho. There are so much more effective ways to make Israel look bad instead.

[-] cristian64@reddthat.com 33 points 1 month ago

That was the face of a terrorist laughing at a Palestinian girl that was being tormented by the terrorist group. What does painting that face on a flag that represents the terrorist state have to do with any religion?

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago

It works on racial stereotypes not criticising Israeli politics. And it's weird that I need to explain that to a bunch of communists.

[-] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago

It's not weird to put the faces and symbols of those prosecuting a genocide out there. This isn't a caricature.

[-] Riffraffintheroom@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

What stereotype, laughing evilly?

[-] AF_R@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Seems kind of antisemitic of that poster to assume being evil is a Semitic stereotype tbh

[-] Riffraffintheroom@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

To give OP credit, I think the connection theyre making is with the “happy merchant” image of a bearded Jewish man hunched over, cackling and rubbing their hands together menacingly. My comment was that laughing evilly is too general to associate with that image, because the happy merchant is meant to specifically convey scheming underhandedness (an anti-Semitic trope) and the photograph doesn’t frame the soldier as scheming. He’s just generally sadistic.

[-] AF_R@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

Greatly enjoying the irony of years of “Zionism is antisemitism” discourse (unrelated but have you ever checked how many synagogues endorse Israel and how many denounce it?), the online left have now come full circle to “being Semitic is antisemitic”

[-] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago

Why that's an Israeli soldier

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It's giving "there is a Israeli ethnicity" (arguably pro Zionist) and "this is what they look like" (arguably anti semitic).

They aren't wrong and censoring the username is against the rules of this community.

[-] quarrk@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Pretty clear similarity to historical antisemitic tropes, even this one from the 1990s: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Merchant

The most charitable interpretation of this guy’s face becoming viral is that the sneer is a sort of Kubrick stare, a depiction of the moment a person is debased from all morality and gives in fully to evil. This is the only reading that doesn’t make this phenomenon at least unconsciously antisemitic.

If we’re being honest, the image has likely gone viral because the guy looks almost exactly like an antisemitic illustration. There is little upside to weaponizing it against Zionism. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s an op to lend credence to the claims of the “antisemitic left” opposing Zionism.

[-] ikilledtheradiostar@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

How do you feel about this guy?

settler

[-] quarrk@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

Never seen that guy before

[-] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

That is Jacob, who told some Palestinians that if he didn't take their home someone else would.
