Friendly reminder that these things have some nice hardware that would be great for a variety of projects (65W solar panel, 100-300 Wh batteries, IR camera, Android compute device). Would be a shame if people started looting them instead of just tipping them over, it makes the repair way more expensive.

Not sure, but they have a pretty narrow FOV so anything not directly in front of them is hidden from their watchful gaze.

I suspect it's because their raw material value is quite low (despite the memes, they do not have several pounds of copper or grams of gold inside). Most of the value comes from the components, which are harder to sell.
