  1. Dreamt about having sex with my mother while on vacation in Lesbos
[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 1 points 6 hours ago

Okay that's wild, you couldn't waterboard that out of me.

That said, If I remember I used to steal capsule medication from my parents medical cabinet and spend hours pulling them apart and sprinkling the internal components onto the ground before urinating on it to melt them.

  1. Favourite makeup look/routine

Mine is green foundation followed with purple blush

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 2 points 18 hours ago

I'm super basic. A simple skin complimentary foundation with the lightest noticeable blush with some work on the eyes to make them pop.

[-] Salah@hexbear.net 1 points 10 hours ago

That’s nice

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 2 points 21 hours ago

Does this lead to a normalish look or more of a 🧟 situation?

  1. Favorite candy

My favorite currently are mango lollipops coated in chili powder

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

In high school there were a couple Mexican exchange students in one of my classes who brought some candy from home to share. One was watermelon lolipops with a pouch of chilli powder for dipping. Amazing, delicious. My being the only one who liked em, and liking them a lot led to me getting invited over for dinner, I dunno how our exchange student program works cause their whole family came over for the year with em and I got to eat genuine Mexican food for the first time (im Canadian) and once again my mind was blown. Turned out they were in a different class with my best pal at the time and a similar thing happened, so a couple of young smelly teenage crusties became frequent dinner guests to a Mexican family living in Canada for a year. I think they really liked that we werent racist.

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

Specifically the peach one of these Korean candies. They taste like Yoplait yogurts and I adore it to bits

[-] nemmybun@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

Oh that does sound good. Peach candy has rarely failed me

  1. Last book you read

Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment by Jason Schreier. I think it was a solid book for what it was, with serious effort to interview as many people as possible to assemble a comprehensive picture, but ultimately I'm probably not the target audience. I played World of Warcraft from the tail end of Vanilla to the end of Wrath of the Lich King, but otherwise I never really got into any Blizzard games and even though I liked playing WoW with friends, I was never a superfan or a hardcore raider or anything like that. I enjoyed Keza MacDonald's Super Nintendo: The Game-Changing Company That Unlocked the Power of Play a lot more, which was focused on the games and the creative philosophies behind them rather than corporate intrigue and work culture.

Tomorrow, I'm gonna take a hard right turn and start reading How to Sell a Genocide: The Media's Complicity in the Destruction of Gaza by Adam Johnson of citations-needed fame (shoutout to @Hexamerous@hexbear.net for bringing it to my attention). Look forward to feeling uncontrollable rage and then hopefully channeling that rage into getting libs to rethink their unconditional love for The Gray Lady.

(also, I actually have a few of my responses to this kind of survey salvaged from my MySpace page ca. 2006...pure unadulterated cringe)

edit: actually, on the topic of talking to libs, can anyone recommend a good resource for learning to teach more gently and/or Socratically? I have an annoying tendency to ramble on and on, and while it might make me feel better I'm also acutely aware that it's an incredibly ineffective tactic (and at times even counterproductive).

27 a funny way you've gotten hurt recently

Poured boiling water over my feet trying to strain pasta

39 best thing that happened to you this week

Got payed, two weeks late, wasn't sure that would still happen

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

I have huge scars on my left foot from pouring boiling pasta water on it. My elbows down have been burned so much in my long career in kitchens that they dont really hurt in those areas. My feet not so much, I forgot how much burns hurt.

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

Fortunately only got a superficial burn

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

A cable snapping and launching me straight into the ground and my instincts kicking in roll with the fall left me lying on my back laughing with the best adrenaline I've had in a hot minute.

I ate oatmeal rhubarb pie ice cream and a lemon curd with snickerdoodle cookie chunks ice cream while watching children play on picnic tables - one of the greatest table designs known to mankind. The unity of table and bench. Pure in function yet beautiful in its form.

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

  1. favourite quotes

mine is

During the cold war, the anticommunist ideological framework could transform any data about existing communist societies into hostile evidence. If the Soviets refused to negotiate a point, they were intransigent and belligerent; if they appeared willing to make concessions, this was but a skillful ploy to put us off our guard. By opposing arms limitations, they would have demonstrated their aggressive intent; but when in fact they supported most armament treaties, it was because they were mendacious and manipulative. If the churches in the USSR were empty, this demonstrated that religion was suppressed; but if the churches were full, this meant the people were rejecting the regime's atheistic ideology. If the workers went on strike (as happened on infrequent occasions), this was evidence of their alienation from the collectivist system; if they didn't go on strike, this was because they were intimidated and lacked freedom. A scarcity of consumer goods demonstrated the failure of the economic system; an improvement in consumer supplies meant only that the leaders were attempting to placate a restive population and so maintain a firmer hold over them.

If communists in the United States played an important role struggling for the rights of workers, the poor, African-Americans, women, and others, this was only their guileful way of gathering support among disfranchised groups and gaining power for themselves. How one gained power by fighting for the rights of powerless groups was never explained. What we are dealing with is a nonfalsifiable orthodoxy, so assiduously marketed by the ruling interests that it affected people across the entire political spectrum.

Out of everything in my life, what still sticks to me to this day is Kenneth Branagh's rendition of "To be or Not to be" in Shakespeare's Hamlet. I haven't really studied olde English for decades but when I did it was in conjunction to analyzing a lot of stage plays, and the culmination of the moment that I for a brief pause in life understood what was being said in olde English coinciding with watching a lot of Kenneth's silly movies captured my mind the great beauty of Shakespearean drama akin to the flash of lightning trapped in crystalline amber sap and preserved over the transforming epochs of my life.
