Maybe just install bollards? Just maybe?

The magic bike lane that is unusable because it's full of cars, and yet is responsible for shops closing because cars can't park there any more.

Always impressive how they manage to let idiots parrot every long disproven "argument" completely unquestioned. Peak journalism as usual. As if there weren't enough studies showing that removing parking spots for pedestrian and cycling infrastructure actuall increases walk-in customers and revenue for all shops nearby.

In their mind, long standing scientifically proven facts and logic is biased ergo bad journalism.

Fucking brain dead media.

Enforcement.

It's not hard to build public trust in this sort of thing if you aren't a coward. Visible enforcement.

if it's like the US, cops won't enforce the laws but they will fuck with the cyclists.

If US, the guy yelling about running her over would be revealed as an off duty officer

Looks like a great place to issue tickets for that sweet, sweet council revenue. Make parking illegally in these spaces heavily fined.

It's not a "their right". It's a "the misconception".

It's not "critics of this cycle lane", it's "car lobbies".

Installing one part of an infrastructure without the rest of the infrastructure to free car dependency can have this effect. It certainly takes time to change behaviour and increase foot traffic. Some shops have closed - but is that because they were a good downtown destination? Perhaps they weren’t doing well beforehand. It’s tough going.

Reprehensible behaviour nonetheless.

Strong Vehicular Cycling vibes from that cyclist early on.

Illegal parking - tow them.

[-] Steve@communick.news 13 points 2 days ago

I was going to say, this is almost completely because it's an unprotected bike lane. It's too easy for people to ignore it.

[-] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 2 days ago

It’s semi protected by a curb but realistically it’s free game. Communicate a blitz and enforce. Use cameras if they’re reliable (I have my doubts though).

[-] consumptionone@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

A proper bike lane that's adjacent to a street or road has curbs or other barricades high enough to ruin the wheels or undercarriage of any vehicle that attempts to drive over it. Semi-protected is not protected.
