TIFU by trying to be the cool boss and almost burning down the office on my last day.

I was quitting my toxic management job after 4 years of soul crushing bullshit. 60+ hour weeks, micromanaging executives, pointless meetings about meetings the whole corporate nightmare. On my final day I wanted to leave on a high note and “bless” the team with a massive pizza party. I went all out and rented one of those big outdoor wood-fired pizza ovens you see at festivals.

I set it up on the rooftop deck of our 5-story office building because it had a nice view and plenty of space. The team was hyped. People were laughing, taking photos, actually bonding for once instead of staring at Slack. I felt like a legend.

Turns out the deck was made of composite wood/plastic material and those ovens get insanely hot (like 800+ degrees). About 20 minutes in, we start smelling smoke. Then we see actual flames licking up from the deck boards. Panic sets in. Someone hits the fire alarm. The whole building gets evacuated. Fire trucks show up with sirens blaring.
