People who don't wear shoes indoors and keep their floors clean generally put their socks on in their bedroom after they got out of bed and their shoes on in the entryway when they're about to go outside.

You know, people who don't live like animals.

Who puts on shoes right after putting on socks in the first place?

I put my socks on as soon as I get out of the shower, just after my underwear and undershirt. I don't put my shoes on until just before I leave my apartment.

My socks are in my bedroom and my shoes are by the door because I'm not a savage who tracks shit into my home. Am I supposed to just carry socks around while I get my shit together to go out?

Depends on the environment. When camping, in a tent without a floor, putting on each shoe right after the sock allows parking the shoed foot on the dirt while putting on the next sock and shoe.
But putting on both socks and then putting on both shoes is the default.

Archie Bunker got very upset when he saw his son-in-law doing sock, shoe, sock, shoe. The son's closing argument was along the lines of, "What if we're both halfway done and there's a fire, so we have to run outside? The fire department is spraying water all over. Your feet get soaking wet because you're in your socks. But I have one shoe on, so I can hop and stay dry."

I do sock shoe sock shoe if I'm drying/cleaning my feet from a trip to the beach or for hiking a canoe portage.

So I had read about this and at the time was equally enraged on the thought of doing sock shoe sock shoe. And then suddenly, without even noticing, one day I just started doing it. It happened maybe like 3 times before I noticed and now it's just my default because it feels better I guess? Granted, I don't do it much as I generally loathe wearing socks, but I've come to accept as something I now do.

What kind of dirty weirdo does sock sock shoe shoe?? The clean socks inevitably touch the floor, dirty.

Edit: apparently it needs clarifying that you put the shoes AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE HOUSE where dirty shoes from the outside were previously removed. Y'all are crazy, where do you put shoes, on the bed!?

My sister does sock-shoe to limit the amount of dog hair on the sock.
