You know what else sucks? Not just that sea of cars ruining your view, but all that extra pavement causing everything to get hotter than normal (or see pic below)

I have cafes near me that all have outdoor seating right next to the parking lot too, but it's always empty because it's too damn hot because of the parking lot and noise. Not to mention nobody wants to deal with smelling exhaust fumes while they are eating...

The US is so fucking shit wtf

[-] Reygle@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

I mean- we can travel enormous distances to sit at alternative shithole strip malls for coffee, and the only thing that looks any different is the horizon.
It's like living in hell except everyone walking around is acting like it's normal

[-] quick_snail@feddit.nl 3 points 2 weeks ago

Pretty sure the people walking around are the only people who think it is not normal.

[-] Reygle@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Unintended joke on my part there- there are so few US cities that are "walkable" that it's ironically almost impossible anyone is walking anywhere in 95% of the US.

I've done it. There's usually some amount of people with DUIs, homeless, and foreigners who made a terrible mistake who end up walking in suburbs

I used to do this in Texas on business trips when I didn’t have a rental car.

I was the only one I ever saw walking all those evenings.

Also the fucking locusts are nuts certainly times of the years. I instantly regretted walking around those times, but needed food.

For a moment I thought this is in my neighbourhood. These plazas are all the same throughout North America.

[-] GoTeamBoobies@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

haha, I had the same reaction

It’s a little sad. Feels like a coffee jail.

[-] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 2 weeks ago

I feel this. I mean, where are you supposed to sit and enjoy a cuppa without some arsehole driving by blaring shitty music or hearing mums scream at their kids? If it's a nice day, it wouldn't be so bad, but I feel like we should have more areas like parks where cars can't go. Like something like Central Park in NYC (maybe not the best example because it's in the middle of fucking Manhattan) where you have all this stuff with walking paths and vendors and such.

Replacing that parking space with trees and it would the perfect outdoor cafe.

[-] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

They could at least put up some umbrellas, I'd be oven baked so fast. And who doesn't love exhaust fumes while you're eating?

[-] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 11 points 2 weeks ago

Look at all that wasted space, it could well be at least 3-4 more parking spots! /jk

The perfect spot to take in a spongy croissant and $12 coffee that somehow tastes like battery acid and piss that came from a broken home.

[-] pr06lefs@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 weeks ago

typical suburban garbage. so much effort spent making things no one wants.

[-] Reygle@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

It has a nice view of a suburban strip mall and a parking lot. Who doesn't love NOx in the air
