Why is it the one person in the labour party who would very clearly be worse than Starmer

So out of touch

[-] frankPodmore@slrpnk.net 6 points 5 days ago

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. Maybe not the very worst, but he's in the bottom one.

Yeah Mahmood, Streeting and Lammy are all part of the same clique and would be much of a (terrible) muchness

Can you show me the clarity on an opinion poll or is there a risk that you might be out of touch?

Firstly you're ignoring that it's the OPs opinion that Streeting would be worse, they don't say they're speaking for the country.

Secondly your own link shows that of those who know who Streeting is the majority (about 3/4's - 42% of respondents vs 13% of respondents excluding the "never heard of him") think he would be worse or about the same as Starmer. Mind you ALL the rest bar Burnham get a similar response.

Thirdly Streeting is one of the key figures in the clique who drafted the poor decisions that Starmer fronted, it seems a little unrealistic to expect he'd suddenly pivot towards what the people who voted Labour in 2024 actually want if he got the gig. If that's unclear my opinion is with OP - Streeting would be disastrous

The only possible candidate who might win back their support is Burnham, any other choice is shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic

Implying that they think most people agree with them.

Thankfully, there's little appetite for Streeting within the Labour membership, so I'm hopeful we won't see his premiership.

[-] frankPodmore@slrpnk.net 6 points 5 days ago

Yeah, I doubt he'll be able to convince enough of the PLP to not have to go to the membership, where he would lose.

Of course, since I'm a member of the party, this puts me in the potentially invidious position of having to actively vote for Starmer over Streeting in such a contest. Yeesh.

"Everyone who voted for us seems horrified by all the right-wing and far-right policies, ideas and language that The Labour Party has been using"

???

"Maybe we should replace the Prime Minister with someone who 'dreams of privatising the NHS' and is even more of a right-wing dickhead"

Wes Streeting: the one Mandelson has been grooming for many years. Let's hope Labour MPs remember that and see him off into the political wilderness. Streeting's the Nega-Nigel and not in a positive way.

General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
