He's going to Walgreens/CVS, put an old person in front of them that did their whole months shopping and has a coupon for every item, but no idea how to use their phone.

Also, the cashier started yesterday and the manager locked themselves in the baby formula cabinet somehow and there are five different customer service alarms repeating over the loudspeaker.

Also the bank and pharmacy. I’ve never taken more than 2 minutes tops, what the fuck are you goblins doing? If you’re at the bank teller or pharmacist window for 20 minutes then you really need to get your shit together and figure out how the world around you works. I legitimately feel that it should be legal to physically attack people that choose to pull that bullshit.

A post office, like in the olden days? You still have those?

[-] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

Practically every town in my part of the world has at least one. Even the tiny little town that's basically just a single intersection with a closed down gas station and 8 churches has its own post office.

[-] BorgDrone@feddit.nl 1 points 1 day ago

Used to be like that here as well, but they closed them all like 15 years ago.

They certainly did when this movie came out in 1998!

It's rare, but even I still use one like once a year or so. Sometimes you have to mail something thats expidited or needs signature so i send it out at the source. Plus we should always want to keep them, without them that will mean prices will go up for other shipping places because the lowest pricing will be gone. Also rural areas still have to be serviced by UPS, which would no longer be required if they don't exist and it's already been shown the other places will not care to provide options for them as it does not make them money.

My last interaction with the post office was after a week of getting "PACKAGE NOT DELIVERED, MAILBOX INACCESSIBLE" and no mail at all, and after camping out on my porch to watch it for a day, seeing the mail truck drive right on by and seconds later getting ANOTHER message about the mailbox being inaccessible, I took a picture of the mailbox and went to ask them why their driver is just straight up lying and refusing to deliver my mail.

After speaking to 3 people and filling out some form basically recounting everything, I got a week's worth of mail and 2 packages the next morning.

I miss the days when the usps functioned well, smoothly, and quickly. Before Republicans started gutting it.

We don’t have post offices anymore in my country, instead there are loads of service points in regular stores. There are also parcel lockers that can be used tor sending and receiving packages up to a certain size.

Frankly, it’s more convenient since instead of having one big central post office like we had 20 year ago now there is pretty much always one or more service points or lockers within walking distance of your home.

Welcome to Switzerland, where anything important has to been delivered by mail, or it never happened

Here in the US, Passport services are more often handled by Post Offices. Some Libraries and other government offices handle it as well, but that's mostly in metropolitan areas. So if you wanna leave this shithole you'll likely find yourself having to visit one at some point. Doubly true if you're unfortunate enough to be in a rural part of the US

As someone who's been in immigration offices in other countries, it can indeed get considerably worse. I think it's the first mandate of government offices worldwide: suck as much as possible

[-] BorgDrone@feddit.nl 2 points 1 day ago

Here’s it’s handled by the municipality, so you basically have to go to city hall to request and pick up a passport.
