Regardless if it was staged or not, no one cares that it happened. That's gotta sting the orange one's ego.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

The only thing people care about is that it (regardless of legitimacy) succeeds or not. We have bottles on ice and whatnot

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Which is point against the conspiracy theorists, since he hasn't gotten any benefit from it.

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 week ago

His ego and the yes men who surround him probably told him that people would care. That's not really a point to either side.

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

There is also the case to be made that they're really incompetent, yes.

[-] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 2 points 1 week ago

I mean, did you already forget about 6th January 2021? That was a failure too.

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

A failure, yes, but not staged.

Only a quarter? Or are they parsing their survey to split the "staged" vote from those who think it was "allowed to happen".

You don't need to hire a gunman. You just need to make an idiot think he has a clear shot. Then let him hit a brick wall.

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

If you just catch it from the TT/IG people talking, the conspiracy has some pretty decent legs. Strange responses, no responses. smiles, wasn't supposed to be there, people kept eating, guests stayed at the table, even though this isn't the first time... normally there is pretty strong protocol for the president to enter public they bring their own security and their security isn't run by idiots.

Truthfully, none of the suspect behavior really shows much more than people not knowing what was going on or the fact that he's been surrounding himself with people who are not as professional security-wise as previous heads.

Do I think there's no chance it was staged? No. Are there suspect actions by people in the room? Yeah, but nothing that couldn't just be explained by high levels of noise in the room and relatively decent sound deadening.

It could have been staged; the previous thing could have been staged. He's angering a lot of people, it's not like it should be entirely unexpected.

The US has a long history of attempts.

Makes sense for people to think that (boy who cried wolf and all that), but it's really not all too questionable that a leader with such a low approval rating on top of being in one of the most pro-gun nations in the world is subject to relatively frequent assassination attempts. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't happened more.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I'm honestly surprised it hasn't happened more.

You have been banned from /r/politics.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 week ago

I think there is way more to it than just that. For example, the strangely lax security, and bizarre comments by insiders beforehand about how "shots will be fired" etc.

Not saying I believe it, but it's not just boy who cried wolf.

[-] binux@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I think it's more appropriate to apply Occam's & Hanlon's razor logic here tbh. I doubt these simpletons would go to such lengths to paint themselves as victims of violence in this case, it's highly probable that they're just too stupid to take the proper precautions as opposed to the whole thing being a malicious attempt at perception manipulation. Plus they oh so love their headline-speak as we all know.

One of the most pro-gun nations? What other nation takes guns for such a existential part of their identity?

[-] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago

Probably every Middle East nation, on account of fearing and hating their neighbors. If I was a Palestinian, I wouldn't want to go quietly into the earth.

[-] cabillaud@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

No lol, they need it that's different.

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 22 points 1 week ago

It sure seems like the kind of thing they would do. The only doubt in my mind is that we’re talking about an administration that is so utterly incompetent that it’s equally likely that there really has just been a few assassination attempts that have gotten through security. Hanlon’s razor and all that…

[-] vrek@programming.dev 5 points 1 week ago

This one didn't even get past security though.

"Hanlon's razor"...I looked this up and I love it! I was only familiar with Occam's razor before this. Now I need to see if there are more "razor" like blurbs out there.

[-] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

That's surprisingly low. I don't know anyone who DOESN'T think it was staged, even those I talk to that are rightwing.

[-] bedwyr@piefed.ca 13 points 1 week ago

I think that the secret service agent that was shot, got shot by a different government agent that popped off blindly. I also think that about last summer's supposed attempt.

[-] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

To make it look real, not everyone can be in on the plan. In fact very few can. Just enough to get the shooter into position. Everyone else plays their role.

[-] bedwyr@piefed.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Counterpoint, to quote, "baaaaaa."

[-] sudo@lemmy.today 9 points 1 week ago

I simply don't care.

Staged or real makes no difference to me. The fucker isn't dead, and he will use military violence to influence the elections. That was true before this and it is true after this.

Absolutely nothing changed.

Wake me up when a bullet goes through his skull.

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

That will be a sad day. A relief for sure, but we are overdue justice on this windbag and his cabal of cronies. I want to see them all get their day in court and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

[-] AskMeForADickPic@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago

They other 3/4 know it was staged

[-] shittydwarf@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

You can tell it was staged because of how it was

[-] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago

Some people don't think it be that way, but it do.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I can tell from the, uh, fuck. People don't have pixels. I'll come in again.

I can tell from the hog drippings around the target. Way too many hog drippings for a real assassination attempt.

[-] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

The other 3/4 are sad it failed.

[-] Mannimarco@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago

Lol, I honestly already forgot about this

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Staged? Nah. Allowed to happen? Most definitely.

Famously, after a Whitehouse correspondence dinner, Obama left the stage, and went straight into a secured situation room to see the raid on Bin Laden's compound, which in my mind says "there is a secure and spacious building for the President to reside in and perform the necessary administrative and diplomatic duties of the office." Oh yeah, it's the Whitehouse! Why the fuck was the WHCD bring held at some random-ass hotel ballroom?

[-] Batman@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I mean they have that woman pretending to be a door dash employee, so they're in the staging business. All I'm saying is I'd be far from surprised if it were staged.

[-] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

I’m a quarter of Americans.

I don't believe the people of this administration are smart enough for that.

[-] Truthtwopower@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 week ago

Funny thing its, this administration aren't the ones leading though. Its the heritage project and the creaters of project 2025.

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 8 points 1 week ago

You're right. But that is the people in this administration.

[-] Truthtwopower@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

Fair point!

[-] bedwyr@piefed.ca 5 points 1 week ago

And the Heritage Foundation is just the latest iteration of the 1971 business Round Table, where a long game was crafted to destroy the Republic now in fruition.

[-] ParlimentOfDoom@piefed.zip 7 points 1 week ago

It sounds like they knew he was coming two days ahead of time (an acquaintance reported it). And let him come, instead of stopping him before hand.

[-] bedwyr@piefed.ca 3 points 1 week ago

American people just lack leadership.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I mean, i got little legs and probably 400 fans following my music right now (and I just finished a season, glad to be done with this group tho). Some of us know the limits of our reach

[-] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 5 points 1 week ago

Idk about staged as much as allowed to proceed far enough to where it'd make the news.

[-] NGC2346@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

A quarter ? Yeah America is fucked

[-] homes@piefed.world 4 points 1 week ago

And here I am left wondering how it matters

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

because it's important to know when you're being misled and manipulated. it's also important to know who is doing the manipulation and who is supporting it.

it's not always the folks you believe.

Kind of eh if it were staged, but they more than likely knew about it and let it "happen" for PR purposes.

[-] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

A quarter of Americans think

FTFY

[-] roserose56@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Think ? Think? Like why even bother use your brain to think, when the answer is clear.
