just wondering what the consensus here is on like Zenni and all the other similar sites that are maybe not owned by Luxottica and have cheap glasses.

I have an expensive prescription pair from my LensCrafters partnered optometrist but I'd like to see if I can get a pair that'd feel better (weight of my lenses really weighs the frame down because the frame is so light, resulting in them not feeling very good!) and they have adjusted them several times only for them to feel worse each time....

anyways i would have gotten a new pair this year when my insurance rolled over but I got contacts instead oooaaaaaaauhhh

I've gotten a few pairs from Zenni. They're pretty good, not as high quality or long lasting as what you'd get for $300 at a regular US store, but at least 60% to 80% of the way there for $10 to $60. Some of the plastic frames cracked, and one lens had a weird faint line on it.

Make sure you get your pupil distance (PD) measured on your prescription, some eye doctors don't write that down. It's also a good idea to get measurements from a pair that fits you well, and order something close to the same size.

I don't know if they still sell that little camera lens looking gadget that's supposed to allow you to do your own eye exam, but it's a waste of money and doesn't work.

I've gotten a bunch of zenni pairs over the years and been happy with them. I do tend to scratch them up mighty fierce though. Idk if that's on me or the glasses.

If you're in the US and in need of RX without insurance see if you've got an America's Best nearby you. 3 year membership in their Eye Care Club is like $130 and lets you get 2 eye exams a year for glasses and contacts prescriptions with no purchase of either necessary. So you get your exam and then take your rx online wherever you can find the best deal.

I got two pairs from zenni on clearance for like 45 Canadian total, with lenses and coatings and shipping like 3 years ago, and I haven't even touched the second pair because the first is going strong still. No scratches, the frames are still holding up, this is the longest lasting pair of glasses I've ever had. I'm unbelievably happy with the purchase.

Seconding zenni as pretty good! I use them for sunglasses and save the insurance for expensive frames as daily wearers. The "try-on" feature has also improved a lot over the years and helps a lot, if your browser has access to a camera.

If the weight of the lenses is an issue for you I recommend paying extra for high refractive index lenses and see you you like that. They can match your prescription with less material and weigh a fair bit less.

Yes, love them, fuck the glasses monopoly

They work perfectly fine, and I would buy them again

Certain brands that charge 300+ for their frames are significantly better quality than anything you can get on cheap online sites though

If you have insurance that covers like 200 dollars for frames or something I would recommend paying for nicer pairs at the optometrist if you can afford it

For reference I'm comparing against my Dita frames. I've definitely had other frames that cost 200+ at the optometrist that weren't better than cheap online pairs though
