I realized the ceiling is free storage space so have started adding all kinds of mounts and hangers for stuff in my garage. The fan's too heavy to lift by hand over-head so i build a lift station for it. Plans are in the works now for more ceiling lifts.

My wife was wholly unimpressed.

I'll allow this only if you raise it just off the floor and then pulse the power to get it swinging.

I will be adding this feature in rev.3.

You just wanted an excuse to mess with the winch and pulleys didn't you?

It's like foiling gravity, I feel more powerful than all the gods combined.

I've ordered one and will share my next project when it's in the works. It's much more weight so the worm gear will be a necessity and the drill-driven capability will be most welcome. Thank you for sharing the link!

Depending on your load and ceiling capacity, you can swap the stock cable for garage door cables to make them easier to work with. Those are supposed to be rated to 350lbs.

When I was a kid my mother would always say, "well where do you want me to put it? A fucking skyhook?"

Then as an adult I bought a house with 3/4th of the basement finished. The back 1/4th had no ceiling, so the floor joists from upstairs were visible. I started to drive nails into the side of them the hang my extension cords. As time went on I added more and more lightweight things to hang. One day I took a picture and emailed it to my mom, subject: skyhooks. As with OP's wife, my mom was unimpressed.

Anyone that doesn't appreciate it is lacking some important psychological component.

Yup first thing I did. Stuff the compressor tanks in the rafters and ran plumbing back to the pump and motor on the ground. In a cabinet. Best thing is that the extra plumbing acts as an air cooler helping remove water from the air.

Yep did this too. ladders in the rafters with steel cables and snap hooks to eye bolts. Extra large car parts like spare windshields up there too
