you're joking, but:

(yes, i know that those aren't actual examples of brutalism. i just wanted to use the opportunity to show that historical socialist architecture wasn't actually as grey and drab as commonly believed.)

Brutalist architecture makes great canvas for street art/graffiti

[-] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 23 points 3 weeks ago

maybe it's just me, but I like the brutalist look

[-] underisk@lemmy.ml 15 points 3 weeks ago

Same but I might actually like this ornamental brutalist idea more.

Fascism stole it from the futurists :(

The best example from the series for me (also fictive):

Another example

Working there and not shouting "Jaffa, Kree !" from time to time at my coworkers would be difficult.

tbh yeah the ugliest buildings in my life just look unfinished to me

I never understood this. I Always found this supposed criticism of architecture under socialism to be...hypocritical? Western city scapes are apocalyptic and completely unimaginative. Not that popular architecture trends are indicative of any given economic model anyway.

No thanks, more big flat gray concrete please, feed me big oppressive towers of right angles plz yum yum.

Seriously I like brutalist architecture aesthetically just the way it is. Save the art for art stuff, buildings can just be flat sometimes.

I remember reading here that Pyongyang has brightly painted brutalist buildings all around its cityscape.

Brutalism with pastel colors reminds me of DPRK infrastructure. Link below is Korean Architecture magazine from DPRK. The website currently has 8 magazines available from 2024-26. Maybe you can get more issues on archive.org.

http://www.koreanarchitecture.gov.kp/index.php?kt=TWFnYXppbmVBcmNoaXRlY3Q%3D

Sidenote: I'm always fascinated by DPRK url schemes. "TWFnYXppbmVBcmNoaXRlY3Q=" is base64 encoded of ascii string "MagazineArchitect".

Doesn't Britain have a bunch of brutalist architecture that was never painted? You know the capitalist colonialist state?

[-] Moidialectica@hexbear.net 7 points 3 weeks ago

this is really cool actually

[-] miz@hexbear.net 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

okay but how often will it require being repainted due to weathering?

[-] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago

You mean how often CAN WE repaint it AS A PRIVILEGE because graffiti is the people's art

[-] Wertheimer@hexbear.net 9 points 3 weeks ago

The Geisel Library is in San Diego; they don't have weather.

I already liked Brutalism, you didn't have to sell it to me again, but it's cool with all this color too.
