Are they referring to this?

The Netherlands have the 2nd highest standard of living in the world:

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/standard-of-living-by-country

Or maybe this?

Previously, poverty was assessed predominantly through income levels alone, disregarding household savings or capital. This led to inflated poverty estimates, as it counted individuals with low monthly incomes yet substantial assets as living below the poverty line.

The revised method presents a more nuanced view by considering savings and the ability to maintain basic needs for a year. Now, those who may earn less but possess enough savings to sustain themselves through the year are no longer classified as impoverished. In practical terms, the newly defined poverty line sits at approximately €1,510 income per month for a single person and €2,535 for a family with two young children. This single poverty line replaces the prior multi-dimensional approaches, allowing for a standardized assessment of poverty across demographics and income brackets.

Dutch - people from Netherlands
Poor - lacking money or material possessions

[-] Okokimup@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

Sure but it's not a term I've ever heard used in the US.

I wonder if you are taking this meme a bit too seriously and/or literally?

[-] Okokimup@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Im just trying to understand it and widen my scope of reference. Im familiar with the term euro-poor, but this made me wonder if there was something particularly relevant about the Dutch that I was missing context for.

[-] HuudaHarkiten@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

No its just a nation specific version of the euro-poor thing.

[-] M137@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

country/continent+poor is a pretty common American right wing thing to say, europoor is the one I've seen the most.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

The Dutch don't even have Labubu doll collections or TrumpCoins. Socialist hell hole.

[-] JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nl 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

"Europoor" was (is?) commonly used on 4chan by idiot american men being directly manipulated into being ultra-right nationalists by Epstein and his friends.

I don't know if it was also on reddit, but not the reddit I browsed before lemmy

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

It's a term from American Right Wingers who have never left the US but will tell you all about the evils of socialism.

[-] blinfabian@feddit.nl 3 points 2 weeks ago
