How does compatibility work for the steam controller? Does it appear as a generic xbox controller or does it have its own device designation?

according to gamers nexus' review without steam runing it just functions as a mouse touchpad, no gamepad. Possibly some keypresses on the huttons. Same way steamdeck controls behave when you are in desktop mode but dont have steam running.

Based on how the Steam Deck's integrated controller shows up, it should default to being designated as a Steam controller specifically. I believe it falls back to the Xbox standard if there's an incompatibility though
