Boss: “Everyone, calm down. Gary was well within his rights to kill Kevin. But since we’re on a crunch, Gary has also volunteered to pick up Kevin’s workload.”

Y’all think there'd be a ”Boss” still? And a CEO to care if the work gets done? That seems like part of the comedy to me.

Kind of the whole thing behind Purge (its been a while, so I don't remember if this was the first or what) was that the CEOs and other very wealthy would hide themselves away while people killed each other, as a distraction from their own terrible actions throughout the year.

So yeah, it was kind of the point that there would be a boss still after the purge.

Just one reason why the premise for those movies is just so fucking stupid.

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 month ago

Why? The movies make it clear its not really cutting down crime or "letting loose demons" or anything like that but about the ruling class using it to purge the poor and "undesirables".

...are you under the impression that the movies are advocating for such an event? That...that's not even close to right.

I can't speak for the movies, but I remember people unironically doing that when the first movie came out and got popular

People, on average, are uncritical and prone to violence - a key component of the movies/premise.

Seems too likely to cut out the actually decent social commentary that makes the movies not terrible.
