I think maybe not. The one in charge has to deal with responsibilities. The rest have freedom, they can do whatever they want.

Could be my personality but I'm perfectly happy with living a royal life without the pressure of being in charge

Fratricide was popular at some point.

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

Probably sucks less then being born into a non-Royal family.

Eh...

Just an average family of nobility is better tbh... probably less likely to get you assassinated compared to being seen as a threat by your older brother then him murdering you once he accends to the throne...

FWIW, in the UK they removed the gender rule from the lines of succession right before Prince George was born. And even before then, King George was a second child, and Queen Elizabeth was the first child but female, and they still got the crowns.

[-] hellequin67@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

I believe Spain has also removed it although current King only has daughters anyway.

Guy. You're not in China anymore. Stop holding yourself to an ancient Asian mindset.

[-] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago

You leave China but you never really escape from this toxic culture...

I'm treated like my depression is a shame...

Like this fucking culture would be gossiping about me if they knew I had depression and withdrew college...

Like people would literally be on wechat and be like:

"OMG DID YOU HEAR ABOUT [MY MOM/DAD]'s SON? He's 吽吽地嘅 (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E5%90%BD#Chinese) (its basically equivalent to being called a [r-word]"

I mean I literally hear my mom's wechat gossiping about someone else's kid (especially those who are ethnic Chinese)

Like: "So I see this kid (idk if its actually a kid she's talking about or a young adult) that didn't even greet me like a normal person does... I think he's slow" and this is I think she said it was an ethnic Chinese btw...

Liike another tike my mom be like: "Hey I see this kid (non ethnic Chinese btw) and he's on SSI, hey you can be like them too, and live on SSI too, okay?" (basically insinuating that she thinks I'm gonna be this "loser" that will live on welfare forever)

There are like 2 million people who were born in China... those 1st gen ones... oh jeez they are judgy af... ablist af...

Do I go no contact with the entire 5 million Chinese diaspora to "escape China's influence"?

Like...

Fuck me lol

I'm gonna go Michael Jackson and just pretend I'm white lmfao...

Can I get a reroll? Just kms and reincarnate lmao...

whispers "pls pls pls oh great buddha gimme a kind affectionate Norweigian mother pls... 🙏"

You're also 24. You're your own man. You're not required to be a "little emperor."

Gotta get of your own head. 🙂

Maybe just cut ties with toxic people?

[-] IWW4@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 days ago

BOO FUCKING HOOOO.

You get to live a life of obscene luxury and never have to do a god damn thing.

Just fuck the maid and drink a lot….

[-] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

But what if I'm a Targaryan and I need my life story to be epic?

[-] IWW4@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 days ago

HEHE!

Ride around on your dragon, then screw the maid and drink alot!

[-] Auli@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

Females are in the line of succession now.

[-] Thalion@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

That sounds like it would be the dream actually. Why TF would you want to be a monarch?

[-] FriendOfDeSoto@startrek.website 4 points 6 days ago

Somebody should write a book about this. Maybe call it "Spare."

[-] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 3 points 6 days ago

Really depends on the era.

Today second-born gets all the benefits (or most anyway) without having to really be responsible for anything.

I get to become a 黑孩子 for the first few years of my life...

Mom always be like: "I had to pay several tens of thousands of ¥ rmb to get your legal identity".

Like I remember she say it so often during my childhood and constantly recounting the story of illegally giving birth to me...

She makes me feel like I owe her a debt... like on top of the "debt" of her taking care of me...

I already got rejected by a government...

I'd feel very sad if she stops talking to me...

Like...

I feel like I need her affirmation to feel like I deserve to exist...

otherwise I'm just some child that's never supposed to be born and even the mom disinherited...

Like... what right do I even have to exist in this world...

So I really need my mom's approval...

[-] Quexotic@infosec.pub 3 points 5 days ago

Sorry dude, that sounds totally toxic. I hope you can reconcile or at least get out of that situation.

[-] remon@ani.social 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Yeah, being rich, famous and privileged must be so frustrating, some get the tiny violin.

[-] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 1 points 6 days ago

Um, ever watched Macbeth?

Or read Oedipus?

Not exactly a new idea.

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
