If the purpose of a community center is to serve the community's needs then it should not be one single person's decision. You would have people submit suggestions, then do assessments to see which suggestions are feasible and how much time/resources are necessary, then hold a meeting with the community to discuss, followed by a vote.

There are of course some basic ideas that might be broadly applicable, such as providing opportunities for education, for socialization, for physical exercise, for artistic expression, etc.

But the exact implementation will depend on a number of factors that vary from place to place. Where is this hypothetical community located? What does the area lack in terms of amenities? What are the specific local cultural traditions? How many people live there and how close? What is the level of education? You really can't look at this sort of thing in a vacuum.

Clinic, kitchen, childcare.

The essentials of the communal living! 👏

[-] Maeve@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 weeks ago

Should probably add elder care.

[-] Ronin_5@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 3 weeks ago

lol. I’d first use the budget to research the conditions and the opinions of the proletariat specific to each region, similar to the hundred flowers campaign, then consult with regional and country-wide experts to develop a 5 year plan.

Instead of an elevator we can have a trampoline and epic slide

Personally, I would invest in a study center and try to hire communist party members from other countries to give lectures on practical examples of what they have done. I consider education to be the most important single thing a society can focus on and would pour the most of the budget by far into it.

I will answer in what I think the spirit of the question is, as if it's "what would you want to find in a community center if capitalism was out of the way?"

Among what others have said, I want there to be soundproofed music rooms with loner instruments. I want a maximum of people gaining unrestricted access to music proficiency.

China has shared piano booths in public parks that let people go practice piano inside, similar to your idea: https://www.sz.gov.cn/en_szgov/news/latest/content/post_10845676.html

Let a hundred bands bloom!

Communal kitchen/popular restaurant and laundromat.

A huge amount of work is done inefficiently by "families" in their individual houseworks, usually as unpaid labour. A popular restaurant both makes food affordable for anyone, produces good employment and replaces the unpaid housework labour, and also produces a new third space for socialising. The same thing applies to the laundromat, to a lesser degree in labour but greater degree in water efficiency.

An adult education center studying the works on Marx Lenin Stalin Mao Fanon and others... with mandatory classes for the whole community... and testing facilities that root out liberalism and fences with barbed wire.

Billions MUST read until they understand or die trying.

[-] Daddogofdasink@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

although i agree with the intent, i think the method might just cause rancor and general resentment in the populace; Although that's moreso an argument for methods of education which i am not very qualified to have lol

[-] Saymaz@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago

Today I learned a lot of folks don't understand the meaning of the word 'propose'.

[-] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago

Probably a well appointed community kitchen with a vegetable garden

[-] znsh@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago

Too large of a question to answer, like even thinking of having that much responsibility is giving me anxiety. I'd probably find more capable and knowledgable people to help me figure out what each region needs broadly and then narrow it down from there, but I think I'd focus on free and widespread health care first, then housing/accomodation, food, transportation etc. But this is purely utopian I haven't read enough theory to give proper answers.

[-] Envylike@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 3 weeks ago

Lmao, same. basically every answer in this thread is a form of "I'd ask someone who knows what they're doing".

[-] Bronstein_Tardigrade@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago

It is overwhelming if you think about the big ticket items. Easier to think up ideas for community run operations so no one has to take on the responsibility of being overseer. The anxiety riddled introverts like us can blend into the background where we feel comfortable, while still donating to the common weal.

Philosophy with a particular importance to political sciences (to understand the "why" of communism), mathematics and finance (to understand theory better and to boost logical thinking) tradesmanship courses (to make people that can be less manipulatable by material means), VERY strong focus on elaboration of written works in general (a society that cannot express itself is doomed to stagnation or death), history + contemporary politics and situations (to form actual thinking individuals) and lastly self defense. (so they can defend themselves)

would add more but cant rlly write much rn lol, also may have some errors because some stuff is translated from italian

Oh also, all courses are MANDATORY!! you cant just do philosophy without doing literature or anything like that.

[-] Daddogofdasink@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

also dont ask me how it would actually logistically work 'cause i have no idea YwY

Also, i would add Semiotics and linguistics as courses; because to understand exactly how information can be warped and how it is trasmitted and managed by our mind, we must understand exactly how it works.

A tool library for the community members.

[-] Maeve@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago

A comprehensive health (including mental) clinic, complete with pharmacy that stocks both lab made and proven plant medicines, and a pre-k-12 Montessori school that provides real education, tutoring, before/after/summer/sick care, 3 meals, recess, gym time, field trips, and tech. No student on a particular track until they choose.

[-] 666@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Automotive workshop and lots of spare supplies as I would propose that it would also be something academical for prospective young engineers and mechanically-inclined apprentices. I also like the idea of "music rooms" and lounges Ildsaye mentioned.

I learned a lot of what I know from an auto-shop at 14-15. That was the definite start.

[-] dazaroo@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 weeks ago

Obviously like everyone else said one person does not a community make, that said based on my subjective opinion I'd probably have a small library, access to computers, 3d and 2d printers, workshops and function rooms. There would be regular talks, discussions, artistic performances and craft workshops

[-] FistOfTheRedStar@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 weeks ago

Sheltered beds, big kitchen, guerilla education centre and shooting range with armoury in order to stave of the counter revolution.

[-] Bronstein_Tardigrade@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 weeks ago

A gardening center & outreach for supplies. classes, and info on creating individual and community gardens.

[-] CriticalResist8@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 weeks ago

Turning it into an antenna of the CPC like they do in rural China first and foremost 🫡 lol
