I assume you are not a big asparagus eater?

[-] warbond@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

I eat asparagus rarely but I can always smell it in my urine. I drink black coffee regularly and I've never smelled anything of note in my urine afterwards.

[-] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

If you have that gene. Not everyone can smell asparapiss

[-] Chippys_mittens@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I've compared the two, big black coffee is worse

[-] Adulated_Aspersion@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Live a little.

Eat a meal of asparagus and drink 20+ ounces of black coffee.

Hold your pee as long as possible.

[-] trashcroissant@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 3 weeks ago

I see your bet and raise you asparagus

counter point: I like how fruity it smells

which makes me wonder if it's about the quality of the coffee you're drinking (I roast my own green beans and always have really fresh and delicious coffee, I never buy pre-roasted coffee anymore)

maybe I should keep a log of my coffee pee smells and compare different coffees and how they affect the smell

If your urine smells sweet you should get your A1C checked.

[-] dandelion@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago

around a year ago my A1C was 4.4%, more recently it was 5% - it's been a 5 for many years.

It's not a sweet smell, but a fruity coffee smell that only happens when I pee after I drink coffee.

fun fact: doctors used to diagnose diabetes by tasting the patient's urine for sweetness :-)

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

fun fact:

Not if you were the doctor.

[-] dandelion@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 3 weeks ago

we don't know what the doctor is into, I don't judge

Someone will find your piss collection - it will be a very awkward encounter.

[-] dandelion@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago

I would probably just launch into my findings and results and ask them to share their observations about their coffee pee smells

[-] lowspeedchase@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 weeks ago

ok fair but I don't care how good of friends we were, I'm not draining those jars after you die. Browser history, fine, pee jars, hard pass FYI.

[-] Emotional_Engi@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 weeks ago

Somebody was peeing in the shower...

[-] mr_anny@sopuli.xyz 7 points 3 weeks ago

I think thiss effect tells you something about your bodily functions.

I drink about 20 cups of black coffee daily. No smelly urines.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 7 points 3 weeks ago

Try smelling piss after eating asparagus.

[-] Chippys_mittens@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Per my other comment, I have, I consider black coffee to produce a worse smell.

[-] tdawg@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

I have been drinking black coffee for a decade and have never even noticed a smell. Might be telling on yourself friend

[-] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Does it not just smell like delicious coffee? Has nothing to do with black or mixed.

[-] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 weeks ago

If you drink piss, does it end up smelling like black coffee?

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
