"What about Birmingham, minister?"
"Fucked."
"And Manchester?"
"Fucked."
"Glasgow? Southampton? Newcastle? Nottingham? Sheffield?"
"Fucked."
"Liverpool?"
"Oh, if Iran launches missiles, we'll drop one on those scouse pricks ourselves."

Can we?

Do we have an anti-missile network in Dover or an AEGIS cruiser parked on the Thames they haven't told us about?

Yeah, we can. The UK doesn't have much of a land-based interceptor system but we have subs and very competent early warning systems in place. We've also got a dozen of NATO countries between us and Iran, and NATO isn't just going to allow those interceptors to fly past if they can stop it.

There's also zero evidence that Iran can shoot London. It's just FUD by Israel to try to pull us into this shitshow of a war. Don't feed it.

and NATO isn’t just going to allow those interceptors to fly past if they can stop it.

Iran's current strategy of bombardment isn't in superior tech, it's in the volume of drones it can cheaply deploy en masse to overwhelm defences, whilst we drain our resources with our much more expensive defensive equipment

I know what you mean about having other NATO countries in between to whittle 1000 down to 1, but safest countries tend to be at the apex of the parabola, and not at the intercept

Ok, how long did it take you to make that diagram?
Very nice.

Iran's got some pretty high tech booster tech in their top-end missiles which change the missile trajectory at the terminal stage to dodge interceptors.

Not that I'm entirely convinced Iran could hit London, but the current defences couldn't intercept a hypersonic

What about a Godzilla attack?

[-] Aria@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 months ago

Would London have fewer missiles it would need to defend against if the UK didn't help bomb Iran? 🤔

Keir Starmer should be like:

Smash the IRG gangs. Stop illegal missiles from entering the country. Hurrr durrr.

General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
