Mayor Wilson spoke about this during her first State of City address a few days ago.
The mayor's office set up a web page with official guidance and resources about immigration enforcement: https://seattle.gov/stand-together (redirecting to https://seattle.gov/mayor/vision-and-values/federal-immigration-enforcement ).
But seriously, ICE is already bending and breaking the law wherever they can get away with it. Signs are not going to stop them. But issuing ultimatums or deploying defensive tactics too soon risks escalation.
A few weeks ago, Gov Ferguson and AG Nick Brown held a press conference where they spoke about WA's response to illegal ICE actions. Quoting AG Brown (link to video segment):
"I will not speculate on our strategy. I'm not going to hand our playbook to them."
I want to see more of this. I want to know that our elected leaders are thinking and planning many moves ahead, not just reacting as each crisis appears. I want to know that the moves our leaders are making now (public flyers, new laws preventing law enforcement from obscuring their identities, etc) are part of a longer-term strategy.
It's swell that we have a webpage of resource links and some flyers, but right now I don't have confidence that Mayor Wilson and her team have a longer-term strategy to deal with an army extra-judicial storm troopers abducting and murdering people in our streets. They don't have to tell me what the strategy is but, FFS, just say you have one.
