He didn't make anything close to the claim that the only problem with Israel was Netanyahu's government, though?

[-] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

He says Zionism is not an inherently racist ideology and blames the racism squarely on Benjamin Netanyahu and his government that is quite explicit on 1:24. He also accepts the false notion that Palestinians demand their homeland back from the genocidal colonizers is equal to the genocidal colonizers trying to wipe out the Palesitnians.

Zack even pretends that Zionism originated from the Holocaust and conveniently leaves out the 70+ years of its organisation before it, and Zionist colonisation of Palestine which started long before the Holocaust.

He's right so far as "the label doesn't matter". What matters is how you stop what's happening today, because what's happening today is wrong.

The label does matter. By not acknowledging that Zionism has been a racist ethno-supremacist ideology based on Jewish surpremacy from its very origin, it turns a very black and white settler colonial project into a "nuanced gray" area.

Then by starting the history of Zionism after the Holocaust, it hands Zionism an excuse for its inexcusable ideology. Zionism had existed almost as many years before the Holocaust as the Holocaust is behind us now.

In the 1800s settler colonialism and wiping out natives was a cool hip thing to do. These days people realize that ethnically cleansing a population to steal their land is not actually a justifiable undertaking. Thus Zionist revisionism was invented by prominent Zionists in the Hasbara field. To lie and whitewash the history of Zionism. Polanski is spreading a false revisionist narrative of Zionism.

I don't see how a genocide is nuanced gray area. There is no justification for that.

He's right. If you turn on him for this, maybe you've been propagandized 🤷🏽‍♂️

I'm guessing the Nakba never happened then?

Big yikes. That does it, I'm voting reform. Farage definitely isn't a zionist, he's a far more honorable man that'll see us through.

(Yes, yes.)

General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
