Toyota is facing fresh legal trouble over one of its most widely used gearboxes. Three new class action lawsuits allege that the automaker’s UA80 eight-speed automatic transmission is prone to early failure, raising concerns about long-term durability and resale value.

According to the class action, Toyota has known about issues with the eight-speed transmission since durability testing before it even started to install the gearbox in customer cars.

The California suit expands the list of potentially affected vehicles, covering the following models:

2017-present Toyota Highlander
2024-present Toyota Grand Highlander
2018-2024 Toyota Camry
2017-2020 Toyota Sienna
2019-2022 Toyota Avalon
2019-present Toyota RAV4
2023-present Lexus RX 350
2021-present Lexus ES 250
2019-present Lexus ES 350
2022-present Lexus NX 250 and NX 350
2024-present Lexus TX 350

I had become something of a Toyota fanboy after driving an 08 Highlander for 12 years, 220k miles and still getting several grand back for it in trade. I was disappointed that my wife fell in love with a Kia Sedona over the space and price. Maybe I dodged a bullet this time around

Im in a 2013 highlander and its been amazing these past few years. I need to trade in for a truck but Toyota seems to be less and less the reliable brand

2AZs bad pistons, 2ZR head gaskets, V35A main bearings, now this. As a Toyota fanboy, will someone please tell me how many hundreds of thousands of trouble free miles they have on their clapped out 2004 Corolla so I can return to full cognitive dissonance?

I have 360k on a 2004 toyota tacoma with nothing other than basic maintenance.

Return to your dissonance citizen.

Survivorship bias. It's okay to move on.
