"Chicken shop expects to close if McDonald’s opens" is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.

if I want chicken I am not going to maccas. They're completely different flavour profiles and tastes and services and well, everything. If you think you can't compete with maccas are you overpriced, or are you just used to being the only gay in the village.

Mother Yen, at the end of King near the Botany View was still our fave place to eat. Everything else was too expensive or too fancy for us (or too wheat based which my partner has to avoid). I'm not a huge fan of the paddo vibes that have opened up on King and Enmore Roads in recent years.

Fitzory and Collingwood in Melbourne used to be dingy cheap places to live and go out. There were a few boutique places that were more expensive. The last fifteen years its been taken over by overpriced venues. There's a KFC opening on Smith St and with a ~$8 chicken burger they'll be more accessible for many than $25 fancy eggs on toast. When I was in London, the first time I went to Oxford St (the monopoly st) it was full of franchise food and retail. It's not like the artists who made the area "cool" can afford to live there anymore anyway. Just the NIMBYs who've bought into the trendy vibe and don't want lower class franchises dragging their suburbs image down.
