  3. Notefield
  4. Childslave
  5. Gourd Gore
  6. 20Brick
  7. Beans on Toast

Pretty sure that plank is just a red herring

[-] BobbyGasoline@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

You know you are getting old when you hear Beans on toast at the hardware store.

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

Wakeup call: Damn this grocery store radio station is LIT. ohh fuck, did my brain just do that?

[-] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 3 days ago

This wasn't headlined with wrong answers only.

[-] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 49 points 4 days ago

I got 6 I think

Radiohead.
Alice in chains.
Smashing pumpkins.
Nine Inch Nails.
Matchbox 20.
Pearl jam.

[-] gh0stb4tz@lemmy.world 50 points 4 days ago

The other three are:

Hole (Courtney Love’s band) Screaming Trees Soundgarden

[-] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago

I thought hole might have been one, and screaming trees was totally just something random I said in my head.

Can't believe I missed Soundgarden

[-] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago

I missed Screaming Trees, never heard of them, and didn't think long enough about Pearl Jam.

[-] voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 days ago

I think hole is actually puddle of mudd, but either works i guess

[-] prettybunnys@piefed.social 16 points 4 days ago
[-] voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 days ago

Yeah you're probably right, I didn't realize most of their famous work was post 2000

[-] gh0stb4tz@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Huh… I’ve never heard of that band before. Did they have a famous song with heavy rotation on MTV back in the day? If not, I must have missed them.

[-] Hellinabucket@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Yeah but they were early 2000s not 90s.

If you ever played rockband 1 their song "Celebrity Skin" was featured. That's how I know of them

[-] undeffeined@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago

They had a couple: "Blurry" and "She Hates Me" come to mind

I thought soundgarden was a puddle of mud for some reason

Thanks

[-] TrumpetX@programming.dev 4 points 3 days ago

What jam bottle has a handle? But then after you know, it's the lid on it's side.

[-] _stranger_@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I was thinking beer and marmite, like is this some obscure Australian band I don't know about?

[-] MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works 20 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

All 9

Tap for spoiler

  1. Radiohead
  2. Alice in Chains
  3. Hole
  4. Soundgarden
  5. Screaming Trees
  6. Nine Inch Nails
  7. Smashing Pumpkins
  8. Pearl Jam
  9. Matchbox 20
[-] Karjalan@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Dang, I only got like 6 or 7 of these, even though I know all the bands.

Was thinking that they could have easily done counting crows too

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 19 points 4 days ago

Wait screaming trees is actually the name of a band?

[-] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 15 points 4 days ago

It feels like there is a non zero chance that this graphic was made by a member of the Screaming Trees, because nobody k ows who that is, certainly not at the level of the other 8. Like, Stone Temple Pilots would be a good actual 9th. Maybe Garbage.

[-] moody@lemmings.world 8 points 3 days ago

Screaming Trees were a big name in grunge (not part of tge big 5, but in the same scene) in the 90's and have collaborated with several of the other bands in this image. Mark Lanegan (rip) has gone solo and done a bunch of stuff with Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, and Eddie Vedder since then.

[-] chunkystyles@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 days ago

He also sang some of Queens of the Stone Age's best songs.

[-] toynbee@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I don't think I heard more than one song by Garbage until they did that Bond theme song.

[-] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 5 points 3 days ago

I guess I was in a different music loop, I liked Garbage (the album) and Version 2.0. V2.0 in particular is one of my favorite albums from High School.

I think Josh Homme from Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age was in the band for a period of time.

[-] BlackVenom@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Am I the only one trying count hands and also wondering why "hands from the 90s"...

[-] uienia@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Even though I lived through the 90s and was into most of those bands, I have never even heard of Matchbox 20. So that was the only one I couldn't guess.

[-] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago

What's on the table between the matchbox and the jar, and why does the jar have a handle?

[-] ContriteErudite@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

It's a jar with the lid leaning against it. The jar is full of jam, and a butter knife is spreading the jam on bread. The jam also has pearls in it.

Pearl Jam

[-] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

Oh! I see it, thank you and the others replied, I see it now.

[-] Etterra@discuss.online 3 points 3 days ago

That's the lid leaning up against it.

[-] Nastybutler@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

That's a lid, not a handle, and it's a butter knife spreading the substance in the jar on a piece of toast. I couldn't tell what that was on the table either

[-] AltheaHunter@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 days ago

Got all 9 I think…

Tap for spoilerscreaming trees

hole

radiohead

sound garden

alice in chains

smashing pumpkins

pearl jam

matchbox 20

nine inch nails

[-] Staden_@pawb.social 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I could only recognize 5 so far

  • alice in chains
  • smashing pumpkins
  • sound garden
  • radio head
  • puddle of mudd
I was born in the 2000's but I grew up listening to 90's music

edit:HOW COULD I NOT RECOGNIZE PEARL JAM?!

[-] calliope@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 days ago

It’s Hole, not Puddle of Mudd. But if you were born in the 2000s that would explain why!

Hole was a more famous 90s band, Puddle of Mudd didn’t have success until the album Come Clean, released in 2001.

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 4 points 4 days ago

I can get 7, no idea who wailing trees or nails in plank are.

[-] cile.sb@piefed.social 6 points 4 days ago

nails in plank: Nine Inch Nails :D

[-] PostaL@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

edit:HOW COULD I NOT RECOGNIZE PEARL JAM?!

... because that looked to me like a mug, not a jar with a lid next to it

I've heard the name Screming Trees so many times, but I couldn't place any of their songs. I just went to poked around, This is the only one i've ever heard that I can recall

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE5f561Y1x4

[-] DahGangalang@infosec.pub 4 points 4 days ago

So I've got 6:

  • Nine inch nails
  • Alice in Chains
  • Matchbox 20
  • Radiohead
  • Smashing Pumpkins
  • Sound Garden

Unclear what the hole, the screaming trees, and the (jelly?) sandwich are, but I bet those are the other 3 I'm missing.

Maybe in the meantime you got the answers from the other comments, but appart from Pearl Jam, the other two you pretty much guessed them accidentally : Hole and Screaming Trees.
