Hmmm. Another brand new account that immediately posts 3 times to this specific community and that's all. Right.

Joke's on you, the world just produces more and more.

Imagine pushing hard to outlive George W. and miss your window by a decade and suddenly. BAM, Trump I.

[-] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Yeah, and Baron Trump couldn't have turned out much better...

Maybe they shouldn't die of old age

[-] diabetic_porcupine@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

Yeah Elon and the Zuck will find a way for everyone to live forever in the metavserse

Not where I was going with that. Those are also not people who I think should die of old age. Or whose shitty VR dimension I would ever inflict on myself

[-] FireWire400@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

That would require people actually willing to use that

If it promised immortality I can garuntee you people would be lining up to use it.

[-] FireWire400@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Not so sure about that actually

You're telling me that if someone invented a fountain of youth nobody would be interested?

[-] FireWire400@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

I'm sure some people would be interested, but I just can't imagine a lot would find the idea of living in the metaverse appealing, even if it's forever.

Giving full control to some nutjobs....

Take a look at Meta's social media market share; people don't give a shit about their data.

That's not my point. Do you really think would people want to live out the rest of their existence in a digital space under the dictatorship of some power-hungry billionaires? If they can even be arsed to do anything, they'd most likely abandon it after a few years (just like what's happening to the metaverse and every other similar online space already) leaving you spending your days in a literal void.

If anything they'd just shut it off, killing any consciousness trapped in the simulation.

But my point is I think you underestimate the amount of people who would bw interested regardless of all the negatives.

Maybe I still have too much faith in humanity, but no, I don't think I underestimate the amount.
