I missed this post the other day. I love building bandai's Star Wars and gunpla model kits. I don't often get the opportunity to get one, so I've only built a few over the years, but always looking forward to building more when I can. My very first kit is probably my most interesting/unique. A 7-Eleven themed classic gundam that afaik was only sold in 7-Eleven stores in Japan, which I built many years ago, before I ever got into watching the series.

The past couple years, I finally started watching the series and I love it. I'm in a similar camp, I've been watching the series chronologically, so I'm also mostly only familiar with UC, and only just starting to venture outside of it (finished G gundam, started Wing). I've built two more since getting into the series properly. Sorry bad lighting/photo quality on these ones. First was Kamille's Mk II in Titans colors:

and most recently a Zaku II, which was my first RG kit. This one is currently unfinished, still needs decals and I never built accessories:

After building the green Zaku, I'd love to make Char's red Zaku next as well. I'm also glad you posted pictures of the hyaku-shiki, that was also a kit I was looking at potentially getting, but I really wasn't sure how the metallic gold plastic would look outside of the promotional pictures. I was afraid it might look tacky/cheap, but it actually looks pretty good.

The MG Hyaku-Shiki has some amazing looking gold, the HG looks good but not even close to the MG. I did polish the fuck out of the Hyaku-Shiki in the picture and set up the lighting etc. It still looks great irl, especially in motion. The gold plastic does show nub marks big time, especially if you pinch off the last by accident so be extra careful nipping those bits and get good sanding stuff if you don't already.

I'm working on the AEUG version of the MK2 rn. Based on your pic of the Titans version it looks like they're just straight recolors of each other. So maybe I'll grab another AEUG one cause they're at my local Michael's and they do 40% off coupons all the damn time and it'll be my first custom painting project.

Not a great picture but I build real grades mostly. I've got a kitbash I'm working on between the Astrea Type F and the 00 Qan[T]

I'll try to grab a picture of it next time I mess with them, they're primed right now I just need to paint them and glue certain parts together.

I haven't tried anything outside of HG yet cause I've been getting the guys i know about that are locally available amd that's my options. Ive also done the rx79, the Zeta which I also have a redo bought and in box cause it was my second build and I kinda hate it now and I lost the head crest thingy, so ill turn that one into the wave rider and keep the good one is MS form when I build it. I just got the EZ8 and plan to do thar one when I finish my current build later today, the mk2.

The MG Ver-Ka RGZ-91 is at a local Michael's and they do 40% off coupons constantly so im waiting for that. After that im gonna have to start ordering or watching non UC stuff and frankly Wing doesnt seem appealing to me.

I really like 00 personally, from a design perspective and because the kits tend to hold up really well as Real Grades, though I wish desperately for them to make RG kits for Iron Blooded Orphans, they brought on Naohiro Washio for that series, he did a lot of Armored Core designs.

If you ever get into RG, I'd say the best kit in terms of build quality and being mostly able to just snap it together without a lot of sanding, is RX-93 Nu or Hi Nu, but they are huge kits that take a long time

GalaxyBrain I was in a big mall not in the United States the other day and they had a huge Gunpla display, I took a picture and was going to post it for you but then I got paranoid

anyway I thought of you, internet friend

Nice! The most i can come across around here is part of a shelf at Michael's

I have some kits I would need to dust off before I took pics and a pile of 5-6 I haven't started building, and it's been a few years now sadly.

I do also happen to have that hyaku shiki kit, one of my favorite suits

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago

The Hyaku-Shiki rocks for being so ostentatious. It's incredibly Quattro

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Those are cool as well cat-vibing

There is a gunpla comm floating around, not super active. My stuff is still packed away from moving :/ I have that same Gouf and Zaku kit as you show, and a few more built. I have some RG that might be my next build but I also want to get my HG ready for painting. What's the yellowish one? Hyaku Shiki?

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

Yeah, HG Hyaku-Shiki. Its a redo of my first ever kit from just over a month ago. Im new as hell to this but hafe been going hard

[-] jodanlime@midwest.social 3 points 2 days ago

Oh yeah, that first picture shows off the gold much better. Nice! You should find that gunpla comm and breathe some life into it!

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Those are both the same one. My first Hyaku-Shiki is in the box and not coming back out until I make a battle damaged plan to cover the poor job

Sieg Zeon! These are all great! I echo sewer rat's sentiment, you have classy taste in mobile suits

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 1 points 21 hours ago

These 3 are for sure my faves. Mostly cause they're the ones I built after having a clue what I was doing and the right tools. I've got an rx78 that turned out decent but not decent enough, so im gonna make that my first wearing attempt and a Zeta that was my second build, kinda sucks and lost the head crest thingy. So imma turn that into the wave rider and have a redo kit waiting. Working on thr MK2 AEUG right now, just got the legs and weapons left. Also have an EZ8 waiting for me. When I pick up a hobby I tend to go really hard with it

[-] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

I also have that red zaku and a wip of the gouf. Good taste my man

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

I only know UC stuff so it limits what im willing to buy, there isnt much selection around here. I was hyped to see the GOUF custom. It's a really fun build, the fuck off sized gattling gun is surprisingly balances with the kit. It can have the arm holding it fully extended and keep balanced no problem
