Major wetland project to protect threatened bird species created on Kent marshes (www.kentonline.co.uk)

A massive wetland restoration project aimed at improving habitats, including for some of the world’s most threatened bird species, has been completed on Kent marshes.

The RSPB, landowners, the Church Commissioners and local farmers have joined forces to create the 1,500 acre site on The Hoo Peninsula.

The initiative, funded by a £250,000 government grant, involved digging shallow, man-made ponds and installing solar-powered pumps to regulate water levels during the summer months.
