A rare underwater habitat is making a comeback on the south coast thanks to a record year of restoration efforts.

The Solent is seeing the return of seagrass meadows, as the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust planted more than 58,000 seagrass seeds in 2025 along the coast.

Once grown, these seeds will develop into mature seagrass plants, helping to re-establish one of the UK’s rarest marine environments.
