How do you imagine Debian maintains that huge repository? Corporate office workers with nicely trimmed beards and expensive suits sitting in air conditioned Debian HQ?
Debian currently has some drama in their ftpmasters team, they argue with the debian project leader, then their team was disbanded in favor of two new teams, then some quit, etc. Seems like the usual open source way of doing things. Hopefully it won't affect the releases.
This is the absolute great thing about debian. The transparency. There is drama everywhere, but with debian it is all out in the open. Not something you have the read between the lines from a pr story.

I agree, I've been running debian for, idk, 10-15 years now. Sometimes I try other distros, but Debian feels like home. I love how they use Condorcet voting, the social contract, the community.

And it didn't have anyone compiling the entire alienbob repo until recently.

I can fix that. The first reply to the Argentinian guy's announcement that he'll compile the entire Slackbuilds repo was "a site I'll never visit...blabla...trust...blabla... not optimized for my processor."
The guy asked for donations to help cover the cost of electricity, mentioning that he currently wears shoes he found on the side of the road, and received 84 cents in the first month.
You're only making me want to use (and support) it more.

Thanks! The "having to figure out dependency management" thing has been the largest roadblock in me trying out Slackware so far, but I really do want to try it.
If you install it the recommended way (full installation) all of Slackware's dependencies are taken care of.
Additional software comes from Slackbuilds or compatible community repos. They include dependency info and helper programs that resolve dependencies for you.
No one is masochistic enough for the old method of "compile till it errors out, look for missing libraries in the logs, try to compile those, repeat".
Yeah I'm sure I would do the full build, but also I'm definitely a weirdo and there's no way any of the shit I use comes stock lol so it has been mainly the "additional software" and dependencies bit, and to be honest I had no clue how you guys did it but this post helped a lot, thanks!
I'm still kind of a linux noob is also the thing, I started my journey years ago, but only by booting into tails every so often, then eventually ~4y ago I installed Fedora, eventually got tired of gnome and when the framework 16s dropped I grabbed one and switched to FedoraKDE, and that's it, I haven't made the jump to a big boy distro that "isn't recommended for beginners" but Slackware will be the one I try, because I was a SubGenius before I even installed linux.
