So, would anyone be interested in having a “competition” based around journal writing. My thought is that I always intend to start keeping a journal at the beginning of the year. And, I do it for a few days, before setting it aside as something that I just don’t have the time for.

If you are in a similar situation, how about having a competition starting on January 1st, 2026? This would be different from the Novel Writing competition. My proposed guidelines are fairly simple: 100 pages in 31 days.

What is a page? That’s somewhat subjective, but I’d say that should be at least an A5 sheet of paper (148 x 210 mm). Word count should be ~350 words per page.

You can use whatever you want: a paper journal, an eInk device, or any other note-taking device. (Phone, tablet, computer, whatever).

If there’s enough interest, I’ll set up a leader board in TrackBear where we can track our progress, and schedule an event for the community.

(Note: this is a re-post. I didn't realize that polls won't federate to Lemmy... So, please "vote" below with a comment.)

I forgot to emphasize something about the journaling competition: the page / word count is a guideline; more suggestion than rule. The actual important part is writing each day. The idea behind this competition is to develop the habit of writing, without worrying as much about the content of what you are writing.
