Today is the start of the three day strike over here. Today public services started the strike, so lots of cancelled public transport. Tomorrow it will be the teachers and Wednesday it will be a general strike nationwide.

A thought I had: it's funny how men say women are easy, even though it's men that want to fuck everything with a hole

[-] pyromaiden@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 months ago

Men tend to be blind to the influence their greater financial security and social status plays in how willing women are to give them what they want.

Am I being too cynical, or is the antisemitism a very minor reason (if a reason at all) that liberals reject German Fascism?

[-] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 3 months ago

nope. not too cynical. Europeans only problem was that the germans went west.

[-] SlayGuevara@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 months ago

Day three of the strikes. Today it is the general strike, which means all sectors can join the strike. 1 in 10 Flemish companies will face problems today. Major problems in the harbor and airports. I'll be going on a tour through the city, visiting picket lines.

So what even is juche anyway. Other than being the guiding philosophy of the DPRK that emphasizes self sufficiency I know next to nothing about it.

[-] dg2jeng@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 months ago

it unfairly gets translated to self reliance, but its main point is that the dprk faces specific conditions that are unique and that simply following a soviet/sino/etc model towards socialism will not be a comprehensive fit. therefore, koreans, as the movers of their destiny, should carve a unique path towards socialism, relying on the three theaters of revolutions: revolution in the ideological sphere, revolution in the technical sphere , and revolution in the cultural sphere.

[-] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 months ago

Juche is just Socialism with Korean Characteristics.

[-] Cowbee@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 months ago

It's not really self-reliance, but more about centering humanity. Essentially, the laws of the world are universal and materially driven, but that once aware of this fact and humanity's role in this process, we can harness that and direct it towards our own ends. The prolewiki page on Juche is extensive.

Do you think there's a rise in Chinaboos, as opposed to Weaboos and Koreaboos? I feel like Chinese culture is starting to become more mainstream in the west

[-] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 months ago

I am a bit of a "boo" for a culture of affordable housing low cost of living, healthcare, and technological advancement for the betterment of society as a whole.

[-] dazaroo@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 3 months ago

I'm a cubaboo, chinaboo, koreaboo (the good one), whatever xi-communism-button

[-] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 months ago

Yes, it's definitely happening.

One of my sources of entertainment is to go on landlord support groups or pages and sling theory, showcase the statistics of and the development of China during Mao and afterwards while generally reminding the more egregious ones that they should probably be shot.

Graphic representation of what is going to happen to every vassal and trade partner that the US has. The US is going to harvest every single penny that they poured on each one.

[-] p0ntyp00l@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 3 months ago

Anybody here weld? I'm thinking of bailing on IT and learning a trade after like 10 years and a post-grad later, whole industry is screwed short-term and long. I've done manual labour basically forever even during IT jobs and it seems like a cool trade where you have to think but also get to work with tools.

[-] demerit@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 months ago

Trades is on the same road as IT & STEM were. At least around here, good paying jobs are usually gatekeept & awarded via nepotism.

[-] p0ntyp00l@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 months ago

sounds bleak.

[-] 666@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 months ago

Good paying trade jobs have always been like that, sadly.

[-] cin@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 months ago

I'm currently in the last year of a CS major and I already hate it, and pretty scared about the future of IT. Should I be thinking about other options?

[-] p0ntyp00l@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 months ago

I'd say finish since you've gotten this far (unless there's some kind of cataclysmic shift very soon) but certainly have a backup plan. Always have a backup plan. As you will learn in IT; one is none and two is one.

But idk I'm a recent infosec grad and every single employer wants you to have all sorts of certs that aren't included in your actual curriculum. Nobody cares if you have CISSP or Networking+ equivalent knowledge, for example, even if that was literally what you studied and got A's in in school. They want the real deal which costs like 1000 USD. And that's to attempt the CISSP alone. That's a very strong cert but even that is not quite enough alone based on the postings I'm reading. Makes my head spin thinking about how many calls for interviews I was getting unprovoked back in 2018.

So yeah, be prepared for employers seeking unicorn candidates with at least 2+ years of experience in whatever job you're looking at, ghost jobs (Sophos is horrible for this), and I hope you can drive because tons of them want to shuttle you between job sites because it's just cheaper to pay for gas. I can't and it's cost me dearly. Make sure you have a good workflow for creating custom resumes from a template too because you're gonna be sending a LOT of them.

That's just my experience. Good luck out there. /gen

Does anyone else have trouble valuing yourself sometimes? I assume it's not uncommon under capitalism, but I still want to put it out there. Like I've been to therapy plenty, I know all the platitudes, and I do believe in valuing human life very strongly. But it doesn't change the fact that capitalism doesn't value me and many others intrinsically and I think it's hard to shake that sometimes. Like there's what I believe and then there's what society practices, and society is a powerful instrument of impact; at least, that's sort of how I make sense of the contrast between belief and internalized feelings about it.

[-] dg2jeng@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 3 months ago

also, have you seen any good movies? i watched "children of heaven" (1997, Majid Majidi) recently. excellent film.

[-] Cowbee@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 months ago

Big fan of Tarkovsky's Stalker. Great soviet sci-fi.
