West: We are against this resolution because Russia trying to use it to weaken Ukraine.

Global South: But why would it weaken Ukraine?

West: Because Russia wants it.

Global South: But WHY tho? Why would combating Nazism in itself weaken Ukraine?

West: Errr...cuz...well...Russia. If Russia wants something it has to be bad, yeah. Russia bad, very very bad.

[-] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 5 months ago

"The collective West" = "the international community" = USA+Canada+Australia+EU+Japan+South Korea

Westerners Oppose Racism Challenge (IMPOSSIBLE; GONE WRONG)

[-] King_Simp@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

What are you talking about? The entire international community voted against it (/s) whats this "west" you speak of?

[-] ulterno@programming.dev 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Is the infographic wrong or what, does my country (coloured green) not count as part of the international community?

Even China is green.

Of course I am not implying that such a vote even matters, but a vote is a vote.

[-] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 5 months ago

No, if your country is green then it is not part of the so-called "international community".

[-] LetzterTod@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 5 months ago

A joke how often in liberal news articles and just hedgemonic media, the international community is just north america excluding mexico, Europe, South Korea, Japan, and Oceanic countries, ignoring every other country in the world including major ones like Russia, India, China, Brazil, Iran, etc

[-] King_Simp@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 5 months ago

Im making a joke [that being that news articles will say "international community does x" when the international community is basically just the west, ignoring Russia, China, and the rest of the global south]

[-] ulterno@programming.dev 4 points 5 months ago

Guess I need to see news articles more frequently, to be able to get that joke.
But yeah, nice one

Post this on image on reddit but edit the title and wording to say it's an alt-history 1942 map where the western allies join the axis and see if anyone notices.

[-] Redcuban1959@hexbear.net 7 points 5 months ago

wtf ireland??? Even israel voted in favor of this.

De Valera denounced reports of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp as "anti-national propaganda"; according to Paul Bew, this was not out of disbelief but rather because the Holocaust undermined the assumptions underlying Irish neutrality: moral equivalence between the Allies and the Axis, and the idea that the Irish were the most persecuted people in Europe.[52]

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 5 points 5 months ago

I love how Latin America is not considered part of "the West"

[-] manuallybreathing@lemmy.ml 5 points 5 months ago

Now? These votes happen almost every year

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Yeah but EU first time voted openly against, before they abstained.
