In the context of discussing cross-strait relations during the DW interview, Cheng criticized President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), saying "their words and actions could very well turn Taiwan into a second Ukraine."

When Tsou then asked her whether it was Putin who decided to start the war in Ukraine, Cheng replied, "Of course not."

"The core reason the war broke out and continues today is NATO's repeated eastward expansion," Cheng said.

Cheng contended that if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and allied countries had long ago abandoned plans to let Ukraine join NATO, "none of this would have happened."

Eyebrow raising to hear this coming from the KMT given their long history with the US.

The US has dropped the KMT like last year's toy. The DPP is their new favorite toy to play with in Taiwan. Turns out once the US stops funding a party they suddenly become much more rational about geopolitical issues.

This makes sense tbqh since being a leader in a US allied state probably means fielding accusations of being an authoritarian dictator no matter how much you toe the line. Being ready to depose and replace your satraps is important, & the US internal politics now demand inscrutable economic sacrifices for The Line

Would be insane interesting if Russia was able to destabilize Taiwan the same way it did the US.

Americans honestly wouldn't have a leg to stand on if Taiwan "willingly" rejoined China.

Taiwanese people want the relationship with China to remain exactly as it is for the time being. The certainly don't want US interference.

The current president, US puppet Lai Ching-te, recently attempted to oust all the opposition members of parliament. He failed. Lai may be president for now, but the KMT hold the parliamentary majority.

Putin made significant reforms from CIA stooge, and therefore loved "democratic leader" Yeltsin's corruption was reformed. Western propaganda still portrays the oligarchy Yeltsin helped create (to enrichment of western financing) as in control of Russia. Reality to Russians, is that CIA puppetted nazi Ukraine instigated this war for diminishment of Russia goals, and defense of Russia is needed, and Putin has done a competent job in growing a war economy with good pay for everyone who wants a job in Russia. Western propaganda carries no weight because west hates an independent/cohesive Russia.

Yeah, this is a key point that a lot of Western libs completely miss because they're so caught up in their own moral grandstanding. Before the whole war kicked off, Putin actually had to deal with real internal opposition. A significant number of people, especially in the bigger cities, genuinely wanted more integration with Europe and the West in general.

But then the war started, and the mask came off. The West's response wasn't just sanctions on oligarchs or the government. It immediately devolved into this insane, open season on anything and everything Russian. We're talking about regular people getting banned from sports and arts, calls for collective punishment, and just a flood of the most vile, racist garbage directed at Russians as an ethnic group. It went from "we hate Putin's regime" to "we hate you people" in about five seconds flat.

And that was a gift from heaven for the Kremlin. They've been saying for years that the West secretly despises all Russians and wants to see Russia broken up and erased as a culture. Suddenly, they could just point to the news and say see? we told you so.

This completely nuked the domestic pro Western opposition. What were they supposed to argue for? Hey, let's be friends with these people who are calling for us to be shoved back into the stone age? Their entire platform was instantly irrelevant.

So instead of turning on Putin, a huge chunk of the population, including many who didn't even like him, circled the wagons. When you're being told by the entire "international community" that you're subhuman orc because of your leader's actions, you tend to rally around the flag as a form of self defense. The West's blatant chauvinism and racism ended up solidifying Putin's power in a way he could never have managed on his own.

They've been saying for years that the West secretly despises all Russians and wants to see Russia broken up and erased as a culture.

Certainly helps the Kremlin's messaging land with Russians that EU politicians are openly holding conferences explicitly discussing how they want to balkanize Russia and steal its resources.

Putin doesn't need to rig elections (though his party very likely does do it against the communists in local and regional elections), the West's idiotic anti-Russian crusade has been the best electoral campaign he could have ever asked for. It is absolutely unsurprising to me that he has a solid 80% support now.

It also helps that things are going much better in Russia than they are in Europe at the moment. Much as i'd prefer the communists to be in charge instead, it doesn't help to delude onesself about the current mood in Russia which is overall quite optimistic.

Dude there's literally videos of Putin's cronies stuffing ballot boxes. He also prosecutes activist and has them mysteriously fall out of windows. Like they sentenced a group for just making a podcast. He's not a hero and doesn't being liberation. He's a sub imperialist who wants to replace the ruling imperial power. That's all. Maybe not as bad. But that's all he can offer.

Dude, mainstream western media openly admits that Putin has mass popular support in Russia, but you keep on doing your copes I guess. Nobody is talking about Putin being any sort of hero here. What's being said is that there's no evidence to suggest that elections in Russia need rigging. Meanwhile, the idea that Russia is trying to replace the US as the global hegemon is beyond laughable.

The facts are only relevant on a different subject. But introducing that new subject undermines the original subject and dilutes the initial statement even though it's factually correct. Gas lighting. You're also assuming I'm not being persecuted. Of which in survived attempted murder fighting corruption in America. I have the legitimacy to criticize Putin.

If you wanna talk about prosecution of activists, maybe take a look at what happens to anyone who criticizes the US for being what it is.

Explain and deflect as much as you want. You can't talk his suppression of human rights with the LGBTQ, slander of trans people, abductions, assassinations, documented rigged elections and so on.
