I'm assuming the joke is the man never learned her name, so takes their kids to random gravestones

like a play on a one night stand joke about not learning the others name, but relationship somehow continued until children?

I thought it was more about husband not caring to remember about anything at all, like all the jokes about when a father can't guess the age of the child without missing by ten years, or doesn't know where the child attends school (those are not entirely jokes as I know of real examples of this)

I feel like the joke might work a lot better with the Mom bringing the kids to random dead father.

Hard to not know who the mother is.
