I have to admit, us in Ireland are cucked for US multinationals. We can't create jobs here so we invited them over to create jobs for us with the incentive of low corporation tax. US companies became the number 1 employer and provide the largest turnover in Ireland. It had been working until Trump tariffs came. When I was in Reddit, many Irish users were dismissive about weaning off from US multinational companies in spite of it all. It is the typical "be grand" attitude that is ingrained in the culture here. One user mentioned it will be okay, Trump is only going to be president for four years, and painted an optimistic outlook. But looking back, the person could be a higher up employed by US multinationals trying to assuage the fears based on the language he/she used.

I think a lot of Irish have become over reliant and mentally beholden by US corporations. Can't really think of alternative outside the habit. Hell, the Irish government was even reluctant to take the €1.3 billion taxes that Apple owed the state in spite of the EU court ruling, because this could dissuade US companies to set up shore in Ireland. And now here we are, a fifth column in the EU in the form of an Irish ex-employee of Meta. At least the good news is that GDPR office isn't only in Ireland, so other GDPR offices in the EU could pass judgement more independently.

Ok, but what do I do about the fuckass perverts that wear Meta glasses and record and dox people in public, as has increasingly been happening? I have no Meta social media and I'm still been harassed by the Zuck.

Let's be honest, we're at the point where quitting Facebook/Instagram isn't enough. Quitting Facebook isn't gonna stop their regulatory capture, they are moving towards consumer technology and that's just gonna be another corporate surveillance nightmare on top of what we already have.

Wear a mask. They aren't the only ones watching you.

Wait, the glasses have a doxing app?

That’s inevitable with these sorts of things. But is it here already?

Yeah, we have Meta glasses here in Europe, just no AI features (yet). You can take pictures and video basically wherever. A lot of right wing "influencer" types have been using them to target and take photos/record "undesirable" people in public and post them online.

Being recorded by public cameras with full knowledge vs being recorded by a private citizens in public with discrete recording devices are two very different things. Everyone was outraged with Google Glass, where is that energy for these fugly Meta Raybans?

Personal experience, some shithead tried to "discreetly" record me because I had a keffiyeh in Amsterdam. Fortunately it's been raining here all week and I had a hat and rainhoodie on, plus a mask. Saw his sunglass light turn on (I was already suspicious, why tf is he wearing sunglasses in the rain), started yelling at him, and he bolted when the station security showed up.

More worried about my friends who insist one can't function in society without them and become almost agitated at the thought of alternatives. It's where they get all their news from because "the media can't be trusted".

Your friends are idiots
