Two galactic adventures await! Soar through the vast corners of the galaxy, explore and discover all sorts of planets, and use different cosmic power-ups to transform as you put a stop to Bowser's nefarious plans. Plus, a new chapter has been added to the Storybook in Super Mario Galaxy…and a new Storybook appears in Super Mario Galaxy 2! You can also enable the newly added Assist Mode for a smoother space adventure.

Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 launches on Nintendo Switch October 2, 2025.

Pre-orders are available now on Nintendo eShop. The games will also be individually available on Nintendo eShop. Additionally, a free update that adds 4K resolution support* and mouse controls for the second player will be available for Nintendo Switch 2.

*TV and game must be compatible with 4K resolution. Frame rates are capped at 60 fps for 4K output.

$70, what a bargain! Thanks Dolphin.

Galaxy 1 has a new storybook chapter. Galaxy 2 has a storybook. It has a builtin soundtrack player. Those are the only new features of the release shown in the trailer.

This trailer is just about the things that were in the Wii originals, and has almost nothing to say about what's changed with this release.

The pre-rendered opening cutscenes of galaxy 1 look like an upscale to my untrained eyes.

From what I’ve seen online, these new releases also have new difficulty/assist settings, higher resolution textures, run at 4K (when docked on Switch 2), and the cutscenes are not just upscaled but have been re-rendered with an improved aspect ratio.

So not a huge step up from the previous 3D All-Stars release, but it is better.

But did they use galaxy 2's orchestral fanfares in galaxy 1?

That's the only thing I care about. It detracts so much from the experience to finish a level with a gorgeous orchestral soundtrack, only to be rewarded with blarpy midi celebrating your victory. That's the most important thing.

I hope that the motion controls work better than on the Wii. Not sure it's worth the cost, though.

I have Super Mario 3d All Stars which has Galaxy on it. They work much better. Basically you can point wherever you want and press a button to recenter. It's very easy. So you can lay long ways on the couch and point at the wall instead of the TV and it works. If you reposition you just press a button, no menus to go through. I am assuming this will use the same approach but I cannot be sure.

Fascinating. We'll see how it goes then.
