We use this meme template to make fun of the bullshit anti DPRK propaganda, they use it to say how "we are becoming North Korea".
We are not the same.

"In capitalist America they revoke your passport if you don't cry for fascists"
How the hell do they know about yeonmi park memes? Most people who are lib and to the right think she's just telling the truth about Korea. You have to be left of lib to see the irony that it's actually true about the west.
Maybe they have no clue who she is, but know how the meme format is used
this is precisely what it is, anti-dprk indoctrination is one of the most, if not the most deeply embedded position in a liberal's mind. i'd be surprised if they gave it any attention otherwise
This, one of my friends said that there was nothing I could do or say to make her change her mind about the DPRK.
That kind of ignorance is disgusting. I've had that exact same reaction from (former) friends over China. Makes you realize that when shit hits the fan, they'll likely gripe for whatever is most comfortable for them.
At these points, I just wish them luck.
I wish I had the link to the Reddit post but I have to imagine that the OP was probably a leftist?
Would almost certainly have to be to even be aware of the format
like not gonna vouch for M. Bernstein but he is at least to the left of his friend contrapoints when it comes to Palestine so that's that ?
Honestly I think it's possible they're not mocking her claims, I think it's possible they're saying they see a similarity with the DPRK; do I think they're also having fun at her expense? Yes, it would just be sinophobia even against people they traditionally agree with; it's basically why Asian Americans are portrayed as caricatures in media.
Thos was my thought as well. It came across as comparing the U.S. under Trump to the invented image of "North Korea" that Western liberals believe is the 'real' DPRK.
"As revolutionaries, we don't have the right to say that we're tired of explaining. We must never stop explaining. We also know that when the people understand, they cannot but follow us. In any case, we, the people, have no enemies when it comes to peoples. Our only enemies are the imperialist regimes and organizations." Thomas Sankara, 1985
