Multiple times in the last year, I have tried to join up with groups in order to enjoy social hobbies. And each time, a group of people who I can only describe as bottom-of-the-barrel, 4chan-tier fascist losers has been a part of those groups.

Being sensitive to the dogwhistles they use, I get uncomfortable and in one case even pointed it out to the friendly but "politically-detached" people running the group, but just got met with "you're 100% right and I see that the problem is real, but they haven't crossed any hard lines so I'm gonna have to give them the benefit of the doubt" - a phrase I have come to despise. I explained that by giving them that courtesy, you are alienating people who you actually want to be around, for the sake of keeping hateful scum in your midst. They nod, they agree, but don't do anything.

The result? The friendly people who didn't like the scum wound up departing, as I predicted. And now I'm leaving as well, because the entire group is dissolving, and because it's not possible to enjoy social hobbies with sick-minded fascists, whose ideology of hatred has been spread so effectively that each of my recent attempts to socialize are upended by their presence.

Of course I'm grateful for a place like Hexbear, where those people are quickly purged, but I realized as of this most recent instance that I will no longer be able to join up with a group of even just a few dozen strangers without a cluster of fascists poisoning it from within.

I should also clarify, a couple of these hobbies were ones I could easily engage in years ago without this kind of problem occurring.

Feels very bleak.

The move with those meetup groups is to identify the non weirdos on day 1 and get exclusive asap

It's important to remember that a lot of 4chan lingo has been normalised, and "normies" will often use terms common on 4chan, so sometimes people who are just grill-pilled libs will repeat things that sound like a 4channer, but they aren't. I don't know if this is your circumstance though, but people will say shitty things all the fucking time, that nihilist patheticness is completely normalised at this point.

An alternative way to look at it could be something like this: If a group of pathetic fash losers are a part of the group and you leave because of them, they have free reign to poison the minds of the rest of the group. If you're there, you can talk to the other members about that stuff and make it clear that it isn't acceptable, don't phrase it as an "us vs them" and demand they get kicked out of the group, because libs hate confrontation way more than they hate fash. Just treat like the pathetic loser talk that it is, that only the saddest and most pathetic people behave like that. This does require you to stand up to that stuff but also be delicate about it, they will try to make it seem like you are the troublemaker, always "starting fights" and they will gang up on you, and you can't expect the libs in the group to have your back. But eventually you can get the fash to either leave the group or just form a new group with the cool people in the original group. It's hard work and it sucks when you just want to tune out and chill out, but unfortunately as their rhetoric gets more and more normalised, we have to stand up to it more and more.

This was basically my plan with the most recent group, it's what I always do - fascists (especially 4chan nerds) generally lack social skills, so in my experience it's relatively easy to socially undermine them and form a "coalition" of sorts that is willing to either exclude or outright confront them.

What I'm venting about in this post is specifically the drastically increased commonality of having to deal with this sort of situation in general, and the fact that having to deal with it so much more frequently than I used to means that a lot of the time... it's simply not worth the effort.

Yeah, it's rough, making new friends and meeting new people really shouldn't be this much of a minefield. cuddle

Not saying this is a be all end all but I just physically threaten people like that. Occasionally had to punch a person. I feel for you. I do not have many friends but the ones that stick around me are the real ones.

Not all of these situations are physical ones, though I was going to begin work to socially undermine the fascists in the most recent instance of this happening, the group fell apart before I could even set about it.

Either way, it sucks to have to go to such extremes as physical aggression or interpersonal espionage, when you're just trying to enjoy something. Sucks to the degree of making it not even worth engaging at all, depending on enthusiasm for, and interest in, the hobby.
