"They're actions that are against God's commandments, and God's laws. We do not want the future, our kids, to be raised in a society whereby, they can't go, our boys cannot go after girls, our girls cannot go after our boys. You see? How can children be raised in such a society? This is what we are talking about. This is not a matter of violence. We have come here peacefully just to let the whole world know we are ready to die," said Abdulkalil Ibrahim, protester

I have no idea what they're talking about because what they're saying is nonsense. They think that supporting LGBTQ rights means the end of heterosexual relationships? That's the most batshit interpretation I've ever heard.

That's just common and garden variety homophobia. That shit never had any rational basis.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

But if homosexuality wasn’t suppressed, who would actually choose to have a heterosexual relationship, with such a tempting alternative?!

Similar arguments are being haves in the States “these books and entertainment supporting LGBTQ are turning our kids into homosexuals”

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

That's similar but specifically and subtely different in that it assumes that homosexuality is a virus that "flips" the infected from hetero to homo.

In this case they seem to be implying that if they accept LGBTQ+ rights that heterosexuality will be outlawed and heterosexuals will have to "be gay" against their will to live in society.

They're both very, very stupid, but the latter is still stupider than the former.

That has to win a price for most aggressive message behind a peaceful protest.

'I'm here to let you know peacefully that I disagree with the color of petunia in your garden. If you don't remove them I will have to resort to extreme violence'

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

yeah lmao how exactly do they think they're going to die unless they initiate violence

Letting LGBT people live their lives does not make heterosexual people gay. The idea of God is not great and is used to promote hate and wars.

So sad the devastating effect Christians and Muslims have had on Africa. So much ignorance persists as a result. Overcoming it will be no easy task.

Doesn’t really surprise me, despite having seen some rapid advances, Kenyan society is still relatively rural and conservative at heart. Many people are Christian, but if anything, it almost feels closer to Islam in a way. There is also a sizable Muslim population as well in the coastal regions and to the north (11%). Just very intolerant of LGBTQ+ or anything different. If a woman dresses provocatively, the reaction I’d heard from people there is that she’ll be stripped naked and beaten. They’ve done well incorporating some modern tech into their society, but their mindset is still pretty backwards and stuck 100 years ago.

Extreme homophobia is just as much a Christian trait as itbis in Islam. Christianity just has less power in Europe / north America. Christians here want to kill all the LGBT people too

How can our children grow in a society that accepts people for who they truly are without prejudice? >:(
