Explanation: Both Gamal Abdul Nasser and Mustafa Kemal Ataturk were dedicated secularists. Despite vocal theocratic opposition, Nasser rode a wave of socialist secularism to power, which was quite popular in the newly independent Arab states in the 1950s and 60s, while Ataturk forced through a secular regime based primarily on his reputation as a war hero who saved his country's independence from colonization by Britain, France, and Greece.
