Their voter-base are idiots if they don't know who started the trade war.

[-] [email protected] 59 points 6 days ago

They need to take a lesson from Trump, fire the person giving you real but alarming data and replace them with someone who’ll give you positive data you choose to believe is real.

Cook the books and let it all collapse if/when someone responsible takes charge. Then blame them for the crash and ride that wave back into power!

Blaming Democrats for the effects of Republican policies has worked for them so far. The only new part is them not even bothering to hide the lies and fraud since it's clear nobody can hold them accountable anymore.

Nebraska.

Yeah. US Agriculture is currently getting fucked royally. Here in Arkansas, farm bankruptcies have skyrocketed this year. Lots of rural communities lean heavily MAGA so I guess they can have the day they voted for.

[-] [email protected] 37 points 6 days ago

No worries. Private equities will buy them for Penny on the dollar. Then, we can remove the tariffs and generalize black ~~slaves~~ prisoners working them for free.

[-] [email protected] 24 points 6 days ago

That's what the MAGA morons think. In reality they'll be enslaved on the plantations too.

all those immigrants either fled the states, or is detained, nobody picks up your crops, or managing the hospitality sector.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 6 days ago

nobody picks up your crops, or managing the hospitality sector

Meanwhile the export counties started to van GMO crops, USA's favorite, foreign tourists are staying away while citizens can't afford tourism anymore. The need to pick crops and hospitality is decreasing.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

We already pulled the immigrant crackdown in Florida (2023) and had to dial it right back when they all ran away. You'll notice there isn't any news about ICE down here!

no more biden where you can rail on, and then save you, no more dems because they dont control any of the house, or is sufficient prescene in nebraska to reverse things.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 6 days ago

Republicans will just continue to blame the Democrats. The Republican cult will continue to believe them. They don’t care if they are hurting so long as their enemies hurt, too. The party of hatred and intolerance.

“I love the poorly educated!” - Donald Trump, 2016.

IIRC Nebraska is one of two states to split their electoral vote (I think the other is Maine?). The eastern part of the state (mainly the major cities like Omaha and Lincoln) is purple-leaning-blue and has voted against Trump at least once.

Of course the Republican Party is looking to change that to winner-takes-all like the rest of the country, which would drown out the liberal part of the state and turn it solid red.

Idk if anyone here heard Kawasaki from Nebraskas farm report, but the average American corn farmer is expected to lose 200k this year by their estimates.

So just a bit.

[-] [email protected] 20 points 6 days ago

It will be Obama’s fault. Or biden’s. Or Hillary’s. Whichever the media says. Pick one.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 6 days ago

Emmanuel Goldstein.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 6 days ago

Dunno, seen and read interviews with farmers and ranchers hurt by these policies and they know damned well it's Trump's fault. Problem is, they think he's ignorant on just this one thing, only fucking up their livelihoods and begging him to turn it around.

And no matter what, they'll vote GOP again.

[-] [email protected] 31 points 6 days ago

"We'll get to the bottom of this as soon as we figure out who shit my pants."

[-] [email protected] 21 points 6 days ago

It's only getting started. MAGA Republicans have made America so great, no other country's going to buy corn and soybeans from a bully. Watch what will happen this fall, farming states will suffer and Trump will be too busy distracting from the Epstein files to save them.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 6 days ago

He's just going to have the fed bail them out again with subsidies. The farmers know they won't suffer. That's why they keep backing Trump. The pain they would've felt last time was mitigated by federal bailouts.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 6 days ago

The federal agencies have been gutted by DOGE and others, Trump doesn't care much, and Congress has made itself largely irrelevant. Look at how FEMA is (not) operating. What good is Congress' power of the purse if the purse-strings are held tightly shut by the executive? I think the dismantling of the bureaucracy is going to make agencies unable to manage and disburse the funds even if a bailout is prepared again.

Fox is reporting that America collected $50B in tariffs, but where will farmers and regular people see that money put to use for them, when $150B over 4 years are being given to ICE to hire thugs and build prison camps?

[-] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago

Farm bailouts are nowhere near complete bailouts. Even if they get some money, they'll still be hurting plenty.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 6 days ago

Only the small ones. They'll fall, be bought, consolidated, repeat.

[-] [email protected] 22 points 6 days ago

How many people's wages have lost more than 6% in not keeping up with inflation due to shitty anti-labor practices?

When do they fight for those? Or they only care about the big capitalism numbers.

Om nom nom.

The boycotting will continue until Americans know their place*. How miserable you make your country is, of course, your call.

*Hint: it is not 1st.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 6 days ago

Even if trump gets "favorable deals" its unlikely individual buyers or decision makers will still buy american. The damage is done.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 6 days ago

"Favorable Deals" actually make it worse.

Say you're an auto manufacturer. You ca build in the US, pay massive tarrifs (50% on steel, 100% on computer chips, etc) on all your parts and supplies, then have to sell to Americans who expect to pay less because they don't have to pay a tarrif on domestic products.

Or you can build in Europe, have 0 tarrif-related expenses, and just pass the new 15% tarrif to your American customers.

It's literally better for existing American manufacturers to move out of the country than to continue operating here.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

6%? Oh no. What a nightmare. Wake me up when it hits 20%+, otherwise this is a statistical blip.

"Plunged". FFS. Journalism is such a fucking dead industry.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 6 days ago

A real GDP -6% is kind of a big deal normally. It's the whole economy slowing down.
