I suspect most people aren't subbing/following communities on Lemmy. So post the community or topic you want to see pop off. And reader(that's you) if you are interested in that community click the link and follow it.

πŸ‘Let's πŸ‘ start πŸ‘ coordinating πŸ‘ people.

Guitars. Reddit has numerous active, friendly, supportive guitar forums. Lemmy doesn't have a single one.

I πŸ‘ want πŸ‘ more πŸ‘ girl πŸ‘ content πŸ‘

To be clear - I am talking about stereotypically "female" subjects, not about the gender itself, and I hope it goes without saying that I want people of all genders to be part of it. Some topics over on reddit are full of guys, NBs, and everyone else, but are what a bigoted 90s teacher would call "female" topics. I want more stuff of what that 90s teacher would call "girly" stuff.

I mean, something like a makeup community. Maybe skincare and fashion. Cleaning tips. Pre and post and peri pregnancy content. The parenting community on lemmy is super quiet. There is a sewing community but it is rather quiet too. I haven't found a mending focused community yet. Boy there even isn't a sailor moon community, like 😭 come on

I'm horrible in creating any content tho, so uhm, not sure I should be complaining.

Girl, you gotta post!.. Maybe this fits the bill ? [email protected]

[email protected]

You can also rally up the gals over at

[email protected]

Or [email protected] to start a periodic diacussion thread over those topics you propose? Or just post a thread and see how it goes?

Lastly... You are welcome to post in [email protected] I feel the userbase needs more women , so do a lil sketch and join us there!

Reddit allowed us to be ultra passive, but here contributing is almost mandatory, otherwise the communities just die...

https://lemmy.world/c/gothindustrial has been resurrected and we are slowly growing. It's not just about music. We include arts, interviews, stories, etc. We are an inclusive community.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 4 hours ago

I wish people shared their projects and hobbies more

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 hours ago

I wish there was more MotoGP and motorcycle content in general....

The dropout community would be nice to circle jerk with. But I really miss my knock off cheap Chinese fake watch sub. I tried to post to it here but my post got deleted and the sublemmy shut down soon after.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 6 hours ago

The new Jakob ep of gamechanger was a good time. That being said, I also don't appreciate how they pushed a player(jess?) to tears(happy tears) in her emotional episode in a way earlier season. Weird lil grey zone I haven't seen explored elsewhere.

I'm very conflicted. But I keep watching.

You'll probably see it there, but there are only a few people who will persistently try to grow a community, week after week.

Reading the comments here, it seems like a lot of people would like their niche community to be active, but we have to acknowledge that with our current userbase, more general communities are already struggling to stay active, so niche ones are even harder.

Example: [email protected] is kept up active by less than 5 active posters, and that's a generic community about movies.

[email protected] is probably good enough for all types of cooking, you get the idea.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 6 hours ago

Yeah it's pretty wild. But if we ask people to join niche stuff. Odds are they're gonna half as it (at least) and just sub to the bigger ones which... I'm taking as a win.

https://lemmy.world/c/standupshots One of my favorites from reddit but so quiet here

https://lemmy.world/c/blender

We need more activity over there. I hope to make a post or two soon, but it's sad only seeing a couple new posts before seeing things from months ago. C'mon 3D artists!!! Where ya at?

[-] [email protected] 1 points 9 hours ago

Wow, quite a few pages there, but they all have the same problem 😞 not enough activity. C'mon Internet!

[-] [email protected] 4 points 19 hours ago

I'll sub to that. Been meaning to get more in to blender

[-] [email protected] 2 points 19 hours ago

Welcome in!πŸ˜πŸ‘

The Yogscast community for one. That's what I sought out here first, and it's dead as the desert.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 17 hours ago

If Lenny were less complicated to understand I would!

Shameless self-promotion: [email protected]

It's like "On This Day", "This Day in History", etc. I'm currently the only poster but I don't mind, I enjoy regularly looking for interesting anniversaries.

Post anniversaries on any topic you feel like; even personal anniversaries are allowed!

[email protected]

One of the most well-intentioned and reasonable spaces to discuss this type of stuff I've found, but posts are not frequent.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 7 hours ago

Subbed. I used to love Men's Lib on Reddit.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

[email protected] is basically dead, though I am as guilty anyone of not posting more.

[email protected] has seen some posts lately but I wish it was more active.

[email protected] for motorsports.

[email protected] for motorsports.

I've been working on a bot to help with serving content to that community but it isn't ready for deployment yet. Once it's finished there should be a lot more content being posted more regularly there, but I want to do more testing and tuning before enabling it to make sure it's not doing more harm than good.

Basically the subs I mod. It would be awesome to see anyone new add content.

I'm a fan of these kinds of games, especially Smash Melee. Since leaving Reddit and Twitter, I feel pretty disconnected from them.

I'm trying to learn Japanese as a hobby, and it's slightly unfortunate that there's not much of a community for it here. I think the first two kinda split the userbase by having slightly different focus, preventing a definitive one spot. The third one is decently active though, mostly thanks to just a handful of people. The effort makes a big difference.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 8 hours ago

I really think so.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

And I wanted to add, in general, I think communities here often work better at higher levels. Like in the examples from my post, smashbros is better than just the ssbm community. fgc, more realistic than communities for individual fighting games. Languagelearning > individual language communities, to an extent.

Since the Lemmy user base is small, I think zooming out is helpful. This place isn't Reddit and it doesn't work to try and replicate it 1-to1.

[email protected] I miss venting with a bunch of other cooks on reddit, but unfortunately this community is pretty inactive.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago

Are you aware that lemm.ee shut down? Any communities will need to be recreated on another instance.

[-] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Lemmy already superseded my expectations with how active it is. That being said, I would love the following to see more action (although I'm mostly lurking there myself):

[email protected] - Loved the discussions on Reddit. As a European, it's not easy to follow the games, so that was a great way to stay up to date.

[email protected] - Mostly carried by /u/[email protected], whose updates are *chef's kiss*

[email protected] - No explanation needed.

[-] [email protected] 48 points 1 day ago

Not one community specifically, but I really wish that communities about sports - specifically American football - were more active. I really miss that from the other place.

Childfree.

The Reddit sub is quite active, but the Lemmy one is a ghost town.
