i mean prince andrew seems to be doing just fine having literally suffered no consequences.....

I mean by normal people standards, you are correct. He's had to replace a golden spoon up his royal posterior with a silver one. But he still lives in a big house and will never want for money in his life. His involvement did cost him his representative job. He's been royally demoted. So there were consequences for him although I'd be the first to agree they weren't sufficiently punitive.

sadly prince andrew's victim, virginia giuffre, didn't get the justice she deserves :(

[-] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

It was crushing hearing about that.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

He has received the royal equivalent of punishment, a loss of status. The poor dear.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

If anything he just doesn't have to actually work now.

i mean prince andrew seems to be doing just fine having literally suffered no consequences.....

But he'd be doing finer if he had the immunity that Donald Trump has.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

He may have had some. His mum was the commander in chief after all. But his brother doesn't seem to care much.

Easy mistake but Brett "I Like Beer (and Raping)" Kavanaugh is the one doing all the chugging.

Seems like heavy drinking will earn you a seat on the Supreme Court, or make you Secretary of Defense.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

Dammit! All I got was health problems from it....

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Only if it’s drinking by butt.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Only if it’s drinking by butt.

My understanding is that the only thing that Republicans were vetting for in either case, was the ability to butt chug.

They certainly weren't checking for merit.

Pretty sure he's not sweating it.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

Oi! You're a cheeky bugger!

[-] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

Andrew screwed himself with that TV interview, he could likely have weathered it by keeping his mouth shut and just issuing a statement similar to what Donald says, I knew him, found out he was a creep and tossed him out of Mar-a-Lago. I seem to remember at one point an attorney for Guilffre claimed that had he not said he didn't know or meet her in that TV interview there wouldn't have been a lawsuit.

So if he's seething, it's his own damn fault.

The thing is, prince ahole didn’t stop hanging out with after the shit went down. Lil Donny did put some distance in there but Andy went back. The guy just thought he could keep getting away with it forever.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Andrew could have probably easily said something like "I didn't know she was being coerced". Virginia was of legal age when it occurred.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

And trump must be seething that he didn't think of having the police round up anyone who calls him a nonce in public?

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Don't jinx it

[-] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

Look, the man can't medically sweat (/s), so at least he can play a round of cricket and not need a towel.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

Tbh probably the first time a lot of people heard about prince andrew was over this. He just sits on his sofa in his jammies now instead of working.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

I know who he is because of Spitting Image. I wish it would come back again, there's more material than they could ever hope to get through now.

The child of your once and future rulers.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

and future rulers.

Can we hurry it up? King George III was right, I want to come back!

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Not really future. Elizabeth II unfortunately passed away.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

Honey, if you use some context clues you should be able to figure out that they're talking about someone from the royal family.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

The Canadian Royal Family or the Scottish Royal Family?

Who?

Prince Andrew

What?

Being outed as a pedo

Why?

Because Trump gets to continue being the POTUS, while Andrew has basically been punted from the royal family.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Technically not legally a paedo as she was just about legal age. But still participated in a sex trafficking ring.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

People, nobody deserves being downvoted for asking some simple questions. I too am not familiar with Prince Andrew.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

They do if making the most cursory of searches would have told them. It's not like a downvote is a huge punishment either. Just makes pointless questions easier to sort away.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Searching Prince Andrew doesn't immediately give you the context and it's not a pointless question because others (like me) may have the same question and would like to see the answer.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Then they should use a modicum of energy to find the answer as well, instead of expecting someone to hand them a (correct or not) answer. Might even learn a bit more than the answer to the question.

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
