I should clarify that I mean weird to me, a dumbass who doesn't really know dick about localising things into Japanese

The specific aspect that strikes me as odd from all the Japanese RDR2 Let's Plays I've watched is how the localised Japanese script handles character names: everyone gets one name, and that's it- usually their first name. Arthur Morgan, for example, is only EVER referred to as "アーサー" and I don't think I've seen his surname once in any of the Japanese subtitles.

It just seems really off when the gang is trying to ingratiate themselves with snooty aristocratic Southern plantation owners or politicians and everyone's just on a first name basis. Same with how older gang members like Herr Strauss or Miss Grimshaw just get called "Leopold" or "Susan" by even the youngest members of the gang

What makes this stick out to me is that this is the first time I've seen a Japanese localisation do this. In the Japanese version of RDR1, John Marston is ジョン・マーストン and is referred to variably as John, Marston, John Marston or Mr. Marston exactly like he is in English. Were RDR2's localisers just really lazy or something and didn't want to deal with surnames?
