Good morning everyone. Today we will be learning about your special interest.

This is a daily post for “casual” conversation. If you want to post or talk about something non autism related this is where to do it. For example if you want to info dump about your special interest but it doesn’t fall into “autism related” then you can post it here in the comments. All other rules are still active, be respectful to each other.

Long before I knew I was autistic, when I read up on Aspergers I thought "special interest" only included very specific things like building molecular structures out of magnetic toys, since that is what the Wikipedia article featured as an example.

Me being interested in everything electronic (went from PCs to circuit boards to electrical engineering) seemed too generic to be considered special interest.

„Everyone’s a little bit like that, right?” :D

When I was being assessed for autism I elaborated on my interests, also revolving around electronics (like retro computing, gaming, programming, automation, open source etc). My assessment came back stating „X’s special interest is electronics.” - it felt so reductive that I almost felt insulted.

Did some very light "customizing" to my PC desktop :3 (by which I mainly mean moved the panel to the left side of the screen, from the top of the screen lol). It's something I wanted to do for a while, but I just never did cause I know my linux distro is changing DEs soon, so I figured I'd wait :3.. but watching linux videos made me want to just do it now using gnome's extension stuff
