Well, it's okay, because for once the planet has intelligent life on it that can understand and react to these big events.

Surely once the unimaginable horror of what's coming really becomes clear to people, even the confused, stupid, and apathetic people who for some reason are in charge of everything, all it will take is some concerted effort on the same scale they spend on all their massive-scale activities like making cars or televisions, to create enough plant life and sustain it, enough to break the cycle before it really gets going.

Right?

They wouldn't just keep driving off the cliff even once it gets started for real...
